How do I connect this MIDI. Please help...again

I got a Midi keyboard Axiom 49, which only came with a USB cable

I also got an Mbox and Protools

So I connected my keyboard USB to my computer. Now what? The manual was very vague. It only said to install the drivers and it went right away on using it. There was no info on how to install it with Protools.

I added a midi track, but then what do I do so Protools or the Mbox recognize my keyboard.

Do I need to connect the keyboard to the mbox with midi cables?

MIDI can travel over USB, so you probably don't need a MIDI cable. First thing is to assign a MIDI channel number to whatever track on the software program you will be using to record and play back MIDI data. Then set it to "OMNI" so it will both send and receive data. Now set your keyboard to the same MIDI channel, and set it to OMNI as well. If you don't see an OMNI setting, then start off by setting the keyboard to "Master" or "Send" and the software to "Slave" or "Receive" to test whether you can record data (in this manner the keyboard as "master" is controlling the software as "slave").

It's a pity they didn't included a MIDI tutorial with your keyboard, but I highly recommend you go through one. Just Google "MIDI tutorial", there are many free ones out there.

thanks,

this gave me a better idea. so i made it work the way i used to put effects on an instrument.

created an aux track and inserted a drum kit there. then i added a midi track, and as input i chose the USB all axiom channels, and as output i chose the aux track.

now i was able to record and listen to it.

Even so, they should put a more comprehensive manual. Also many tutorials I found only had the way to connect it with midi cables.

why would they try to make it harder than it is. I guess they do it for you to pull your hair off and figure it out.

Thanks again and I apologize for my venting.
