I play in some modern metal band, and my guitarist loves the mid boost so much to the extent that my p bass seems to clash into overlapping midranges
so i recently added a flea sig jazz bass to set it both pickups on full so that midrange is gently scooped ; in a hope to give more room for each guitar and bass.
most of all im in love with j bass growl.
attached here is a Korean hardcore band of which I think it's got the most appropriate scooped jazz tone.
ultimately my question is, judging on your experience how do you think the particular bass tone is achievable?
1. a combination of simple di box signal and miced up ampeg type amp&cab
2. merely a good preamp signal with out cab and mic (from amp head, external preamp pedal, onboard preamp, or the tubey pre-di box like REDDI or U5.
my gears are fender passsive pj and jazz, way huge pork loin as a pure neve pre simulator without overdrive, and hx stomp in which I love to use b15 amp & 115 ir file.
by the way I looked into what bass this player uses and confirmed that he played an active fender jazz.
