How do I sound?

Just recorded this awhile ago direct into my computer. What do you all think? I'm new to the recording at home thing. This is part of a project I'm doing where I'm bouncing music stuff to other bandmates who are currently in different parts of the US and Europe and we're all getting together over the summer to actually play together.

Looking for you opinion on:
-sound quality
-composition
-ideas as to where it should go

(PS its just a rough song idea, but any help would be immensely appreciated!)

Feel free to add me!:)

i like it.. sound quality isnt the best.. what are you using? the composition is pretty cool, laid back.. maybe put a drum loop in if possible.. i can imagine something laid back and jazzy drum wise..

I'm using a Raven Labs MDB-1 recorded into Audacity with nothing else.

I play drums but I have no idea how to record them with my meager setup. :(

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm using a Mesa Boogie 400+ as my amp, but I have the Raven Labs hooked up the effects line out.

You get bonus points if you can figure out what kinda of bass this is. :)

maybe try losing some gain or something on the amp, I don't know. Aside from the music all I heard was

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

It was really cool though. The hiss distracted from a really nice sounding melody.

Still trying to figure out why I'm getting that hiss. At first I didn't notice it, but now its really bugging me now that I'm not listening on crappy laptop speakers. :(

I have my Mesa set flat with gain set at about 2-3 and the master volume at 2. Everything else is set flats and I'm using my effects line out to hook up to my Raven Labs recorder.

Just went back and listened to the clip,....I realize that I'm old and deaf from years of R&R abuse,.....but I don't hear all that much hiss,....did you repost, or am I really suffering from worse ears than I thought I had??? Anyway, nice melody, have fun and good luck on your road to recording,..it's TERRIBLY addictive!!!My myspace is laden with bass meanderings as well.....

Nice little ditty. Has a good flow, I could definitely see some loose, jazzy drums underneath. Not really surprised its a Ric, but a P with flats was certainly my first guess. Were you running just the Dimarzio or multiple pick-ups?

The hiss wasn't too bad, but certainly didn't sound direct from the amp. Is there a direct out on the head? The effects send might not be the cleanest sound for recording, I don't know if that's line level or instrument level signal or how that would effect the sound.

I'm running the DiMarzio P and the Ric bridge pickup with all the controls dimed.

Anyone know how to record drums?

I've been playing drums for about 3 years and I have a kit, just no way to record it. Though I do have a mess of old microphones.:p
