I replaced the stock input jack with a switch craft one and my oh my, the bass sounds louder than ever. Before having to replace the input jack, I would call the bass "El revienta bocinas" (The speaker buster), because of how hot the pick up was, but it's become excessive since replacing the jack.

Replacing a jack should have no effect on output. Either it has zero output or it's intermittent and crackles. That's the only reason a jack should be replaced. It won't make a quiet bass louder or drive it into distortion.

Either you did something wrong and you caused damage to the electronics or we are missing some information here.

how are you setting the bass / treble controls? as others have said, most preamp tone controls have a center position where from which if you turn up you are boosting the bass or treble frequencies, or turn down , your cutting those frequencies. having the bass and treble up all the way will make it very hot/ loud.

Hey there, everyone! Been a while since I've posted here. I have an AXL Player Deluxe String Ray copy bass with active electronics. Seeing as the bass is a bit old (I believe it's from 2003, but I could be wrong), I replaced the stock input jack with a switch craft one and my oh my, the bass sounds louder than ever. Before having to replace the input jack, I would call the bass "El revienta bocinas" (The speaker buster), because of how hot the pick up was, but it's become excessive since replacing the jack. I have an Ampeg BA110 V1 and I plug the bass into the -15Db input since the bass has active electronics.

Even with the volume at 1, the volume produced by the pick up is so loud that it makes the speaker rumble and it's still loud despite me adjusting the volume on the bass. Is there a way that I can make the pick up or electronics be less hot or is there a replacement set of electronics that I can for this bass?

Any help is appreciated and here is a photo of the bass, just in case.

Just changing the Jack would not affect volume.
You may have inadvertently done something else while in there?
I think you should open it back up and have a good look at the wiring.
Something may have gotten where it shouldn't be.

Did you do anything other than just changing the Jack?

Sometimes lowering the volume on the bass can change the tone. I'd suggest a boost pedal (set to cut obviously), or even a preamp with additional benefits.

Let me see if I am understanding your problem:
1) With the volume on your bass turned all the way up and your amp volume barely turned on, your amp is super loud and distorting.
2) Turning down the volume on your bass does not help this situation.

Do I understand this correctly?

A compressor could work. Did you try lowering the pickup first?

Also, I don't mean to get all low tech on you, but you could get all crazy and turn the volume on your bass down.

Simple things first... usually solves a high percentage of problems...

Does it have one of those epoxy potted preamps? and if so did you not unplug or heat sink it when you soldered in the jack?

1. Take the bass to a repair tech. 2. Explain the problem. 3. Let him have a look at it with his meters and dials and such. 4. He can change the wiring, add a resistor, or do what other forms of technical necromancy that are required to get the bass to a normal range of output.
