How do I turn off all the stupid achievements?

Solution
I'm a grown up, I don't want all the stupid patronising gamification of an achievement trophy every time I do something.
Make it stop. How do I turn all that crap off?
I don't care.

FIRST

Click on your username at the top right--click the little gear looking thing---go to preferences----select custom alert preferences. There will be a huge list to go through.


THEN
search preferences for this Alerting Preferences blob:

You could check "no alerts"

Or Check "use custom" to unleash the huge list of unfortunately default-on settings.
Scroll down to this:

and disable the achievement alerts

but I do get the annoyance of foisting all this preference wrangling on the user.
I wish "Opt out by default" were the law.

OK, that looks like it might have worked. Needs a select all on/off, but it only took a few minutes to go through and silence them all.
