Could anyone explain to me the difference in sound between the standard ESP pickups (SB-4 or SB-5) and the EMG 35DC used in the more expensive basses? I'm currently trying to decide between the B-4Z and B-414SM. I like the look of the 4Z better, and it looks like the pickups are the only difference so if the EMG sounds significantly better I might go for the 414SM.
I use an F-5E as my main bass and love the sound from it (uses the SB-5). Unfortunately no stores around here have either bass, so my only reference point is my F-5E.
