How do you choose your straps

Has to be all-of-the-above for me. I get picky trying to find a strap that is comfortable AND looks good with my bass AND doesn't break the bank. 3" wide, some pattern or style to it but not too flashy or corny. I hate wearing straps with names or images of other bands on them because I feel like that would mean I'm going to play that band's music, I try not to do all the metal skulls and thingies cause I'm not a metal player, can't do the playboy bunny heads because my wife would have a cow...

(sigh). Life is so hard.

My favorite recent find was this one from Get'm Get'm Wear --

Which was half price when I ordered it. Holds my bass just right and looks sharp.

I have an odd way of choosing/getting straps. I'm very frugal by nature so I tend to skimp on accessories and exploit values.

Case 1: the gift. This is probably the worst strap ever(especially for an LP bass). It was maybe 2" wide, leather with a bunch of grommets in it. Not comfy and the leather started separating right away. Gave it away when I sold the LP

Case 2: This is the most I've spent on a Strap-$20. Picked it because it was black and suede, comfy and matched stuff, it was intended for my AEB on the fly. My wife has the burgundy one on her acoustic. Perri's.

Case 3: Another Perri's but just the cheap $3 nylon one with (p?)leather ends. Originally bought for my GSR200 because you know you don't really need a fancy strap for those(not so fun on the ATK). I actually haven't got a strap for the ATK yet so that's why I have pics of both of these on it.

Case 4: The it's been marked down from $30 to $10 because it's a ridiculous pattern on what would otherwise be a high-quality leather strap. Then to make it even more unique, I put some random studs in it DIY style. Never got the spikes on it before I sold it(guitar w/ strap) to this young gentleman before I deployed and am actually quite surprised he'd post a picture of him playing it with that strap. It does kinda grow on you after awhile...

So that's pretty much it. I like a different strap for each instrument because I feel they suit the specific instrument. Still looking for a comfy strap for the ATK in the < $30 range(Please suggest!!!). I might end up with another perri's suede in a different color.

I like this strap. My favorite of all of 'em shown so far. Seriously.

Could you get him to sell it to me for $20?!?!? $10 profit... ;):hyper:

I choose my straps by walking into Guitar Center and buying the cheapest strap in plain black. $4, plus about $15 for strap locks to fit on the new strap (only if needed), and I'm done.

I buy one every 10 years whether I need to or not.... :bassist:

Used to play whatever was cheap. Then I found a few I like 2 of them are just generic black nylon straps 2.5" and 3" wide. Also I have 2 Wide Rides I really like http://www.widerides.com/

I pick nylon over leather since it breathes. If your gig involves you shaking hands and posing for photos a sweaty strap mark isn't too appealing.

You really deserve to splurge on a nicer strap. I'm talking $20-$50. Doesn't need to be made of extinct Buffalo, just a wider strap with tight ends to grip your strap buttons make a world of difference.

1. Color, It has to be black. you can never go wrong with Black. But if it's leather, dark brown will do as well.

2. Width, I prefer around 2.5" up.

3. length, I kinda like it to be rather short.

Right now I use Levy's leather strap and Comfort Strap.

I'm just curious when you buy your straps, do you buy them to match your bass, do you buy them for comfort, do you like a certain color or design, or do you like a certain brand. What criteria do you use when buying your straps.

A strap needs to be comfortable and it needs to last.
Looks don't come into it for me.
I use a 17 year old levy leather strap
