How do you connect with your band?

We were on Discord. Worked really well but for some reason we moved to Signal. Signal is OK, but I preferred Discord.

A couple of us won't touch Facebook/WhatsApp on principle. The WhatsApp CEO quit and recommended people stop using HIS OWN platform over privacy issues.

"when you share, post or upload content that is covered by intellectual property rights on or in connection with our Products, you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free and worldwide licence to host, use, distribute, modify, run, copy, publicly perform or display, translate and create derivative works of your content"

The last band situation I was in was backing a female vocalist. She sent an average of 30 texts a day, some of which were very authoritarian. When I realized I was flinching every time a text came in, I quit.
Oh, yeah, and she got a booking for a major venue for us, a restaurant venue band. We’d had two rehearsals, was absolutely livid at suggestions for material.. Obergruppenfuhrer.
Oh, did I mention she had terrible timing, and wobbly pitch?
So it wasn’t just the texts. But communication should feel right, and not overwhelm.

Not doing the band thing for now, but reading through this I felt some empathy for those suffering from "stream of consciousness" group texts. That's the one thing I despised.
Should read: Band meeting Thursday @ 7:00 at Guitarist's house?
Responses should be: Can't make Thursday, will Friday work?
Or: See you there.
Responses should not be about what you saw on Netflix last night, or the drummer's girlfriend, or the football scores, or how much you're looking forwards to a weekend etc.

I’ve been in a band now 2+ years. They are mad group texters. Same text chain, everyone included, and they go on and on about every little thing. It’s annoying at times if I’m busy and they go off on tangents.

My experience exactly with band texting. I think it *could* be effective if everyone just stuck to necessary items but I find myself scrolling endlessly through "thumbs up" emojis and cat videos to find out what songs we were going to work on at the next rehearsal. My preference would be texting for quick notification items and email for everything else.

Our BL is technically challenged. So he writes out things like set lists. Then takes a picture and shares that picture with band members. The problem with that is that sometimes the picture has a pink tinge and other times it's blue. For set lists he writes out three or four pages. My printer uses a lot of ink trying to match the blue of pink tinted paper.

So me being a nice guy have resorted to typing it all out on a single page Excel spreadsheet. Which I email to the others. Except the band leader because he doesn't know how to open attachments or print.
This is something I’ve been stuck with kinda voluntarily. We all get a set list via a pic in a text. It takes only a few minutes to type up a Word doc, print it out, and bring copies to the gig. It’s been noted and appreciated by the artist and the band.

That makes me the “Good Son”….:roflmao: :roflmao:

+1,000,000. Texting seems to bring out the 13yr old with ADHD in everyone.

Curious how those of you in bands communicate with your fellow bandmates. I feel like I always have about 10 group messages going at once with a few group Messenger chats going on as well. Throw in the occasional dep who gets included on a chat and I have no idea who they are... it's a lot to juggle.

Granted, in one of my bands, a couple of the guys are a little older. One, in particular, is technologically challenged. I think the group chat is probably already more than he can handle... lol. In my church gig, they use Planning Center, which is really a perfect tool for what we do. I wish there was something like that for bands... or is there?

Anyone have an efficient solution for band communication? WhatsApp? Slack?
Ughh - group texts. :rollno: My band seems to depend entirely on group texts. I'm fine with it for "are you available...?" or "work this song up" or other applicable group information. I'm not down with using that thread for discussions that don't include me - then it's just an annoying tool. I had to tell my guys to exclude me from messages that are not of applicable to "group" information. This confuses my guys. Now, if I hear anything at all it's through a private text from BL.

Unfortunately , this is probably the best tool for timely group communications.

Trios make everything so much easier, including the group txt.
When I searched for Trios in the App Store, this is what turned up…

Please tell me this isn’t what you are referring to…..:roflmao: :roflmao:
