How do you feel about your job?

I was burned out 5 years ago. They just changed the system about month ago, so that I have even more crap dumped on me for the same pay.....

The good news is that I am finally fed up, and have my second interview for a very interesting and hopefully very lucrative position next Tuesday morning. If everything goes well, I should be having a very uncomfortable conversation with my boss and the owner here in just about one week from right now........
Good luck with the interview. I hope things work out great for you.

I work in the field I want. That's aviation. The job is mind-numbing (I work on the ground) and quite easy. I don't like it as much as I used to think I would. Pay is actually pretty high for what we do.

Eventually I want to work as an aircraft mechanic or a pilot
. This baggage crap gets old fast.

If you can pull it get trained for the pilot job. The industry is and will be having a shortage of pilots over at least the next decade or two so employment opportunities will be plentiful. I much rather be gripping an airplane engine throttle than an airplane engine wrench. Just saying.

I feel your pain, good luck with the interview.
The short answer to the OP's question is I don't like my job!
Here is the long answer:
I used to like my job. In the last three months there have been a lot of changes and I too am getting a lot more crap dumped on me. I am in a no man's land that I have to take responsibility for the work of others but have no authority to do anything about it. My manager is not involved at all unless I make a decision she doesn't like. I am acting as a manger without any extra pay or real authority to do so. Everything is in the wind with no structure leaving me to guess what the right decision is.
The rest of my department is also very overworked underpaid and underappreciated. We don't create revenue for our company but we sure save a lot.
Yesterday our titular boss set up a meeting with the management of another department that we work closely with and have been the source of some of our struggles. It was a four hour meeting. Our boss showed up an hour and a half late. The managers for the other department spent 3 hours and 45 minutes telling us in great detail about all the amazing things they do. With charts and graphs and all kinds of wonderful things. :beaver: I saw a lot of glazed eyes as I looked about the room.
Our boss asked us to email questions for the other department to help straighten things out. My fellow employees love to grumble about things but when it comes time to tell someone who can change things I hear crickets. Guess who was the only person who sent a list of questions? Yup Mr, Big Mouth (me).
At the end of the meeting the managers from the other department said "We have ten minutes left for your questions then we have to go." :spit:
Our manager did say she has three candidates to replace our old boss whom she fired three month ago but the next interviews are scheduled for June. She also has gotten permission to hire two new people to replace the co-workers who left some time ago.
I am eligible for social security for a few years. Do I stick around and keep trying to make things better until I retire? Or do I tell them to take their job and shove it?

I dunno, Slo. That sounds like a tough place to be, so telling them to shove it is tempting, but retiring in a few years makes it more complicated. I sure don't have any good advice, but then I never do.

My current job is great, especially in comparison to the work I have done in the past. It's stable in a way I have not experienced, and instead of being on a tight rope over a pit of boiling oil all the time, the organization is full of resources to help you do better work. They are open to figuring out how to improve processes and make things more accurate. It's far easier to go work you can be proud of when you aren't getting sniped at. I can see staying here for the rest of my working career, which should be a decade or two.

Its pretty awful. But it lets me, my gf, and our son have health insurance. I've had more than one day where i had to step off the floor and look at a picture of them to keep going for the day.

I played music full-time for 10 years making enough money, but added this fulltime gig so the gf could have a shot at her dream job. Admittedly the long game is working out as we've planned, and im still playing a LOT. We'll see if i ever get to leave the crap work or step down to parttime. And you know... sleep for 8 hours in a night.

I found the A&P courses interesting, though difficult. Aviation isn't easy! Piloting will cost $100,000 through the university (BS, Professional Piloting), whereas AMT costs a fifth of that, give or take a few Gs.

My job is just a means to get money to provide for my family. I don't love it, I don't dislike it. It is work I like to do, so I find aspects of it enjoyable. I work from home, which is nice as I am not into being engaged with my co-workers, going out for drinks, employee get togethers, etc. Just let me work and I will do as I am asked.
I was laid off this past Monday, given 30 days until my last day, which was nice. I've never been laid off before in my IT career, so it was kind of a shock to have it happen. The wife and I have been on a downsizing direction the last two years, so this is actually going to be a relief. I will have more time to focus on my coffee roasting business, and continue the downsizing efforts.

I love what I do (auto mechanic) but hate how I get paid (flat rate) and where I work, although I've been there for 29 years. Corporate is hell bent on finding ways to take money out of my pocket.......reduced labor times, guessing at times or giving stuff away to make a sale and now they're trying to bring in a crew of $10/hr idiots to replace me.

I'm currently looking into teaching positions at tech centers and local colleges. I've had enough.

I'm currently retiring from many jobs mostly involving database, mapping and lying with stats. I owned a print-copy store near UCLA but the crash took the fun out of that.

I can say that moving around for 35 years from industry to municipal to advertising to media (la times for 10 years) kept me learning and interested.

You'd be surprised how hard it is to quit, at least for most.

Sorry to hear about the layoff, Mike.

I don't hate my job, but it's not my dream job either. I teach English in Japan, which is almost like trying to teach cats to bark. Japan has the lowest English test scores and profiency in Asia. One 45 minute class per week isn't going to help anyone learn a foreign language, but that's what the Board of Education feels is sufficient.

The pay is decent, I have excellent health benefits for my family and I, and I get a month and a half paid vacation in the summer.

I guess it's not that bad really...

There's NOTHING I enjoy doing for 40 or more hours a week, month after month, year after year. I used to enjoy photography ... until I worked for a very busy studio that had me clicking practically 6 days a week. Got burned out doing that in a decade, and I haven't hardly touched a camera other than my phone since.

I 'separated' from my last full time job of 8 years last June, a job which I was thrilled to start and work for the first 4 years, since management kept losing people and not replacing them, but dumping the work on the remainders, with no raises for the past 5 years. Then they wonder why they can't keep quality people.

I currently choose product & deliver medical marijuanna to patients in our collective in my own car. I'm on call most of most days, but it's flexible and I don't do afternoon rush hour(s). The pay is decent, people are genuinly happy to see me, and it doesn't drain my soul or take up my whole day.

Now in my late 40s, I decided it's best to keep my expenses down, and only work part time for now. I'm not one of those people who would go crazy with nothing to do all day ... what with the bass, plenty of Netflix documentaries, and summer beach weather approaching

I hate my job. I hate almost all jobs. There was a time back when I was young and naive that I found pleasure and fulfillment in my job, but that got shat upon from above. I am done being the nice, honest, hard worker. It has literally sucked the life out of me, and I have nothing to show for it aside from bitterness, hatred, screwed up legs, and numbness in my hands.
