This thread would need a pool. I'm sure a huge majority of us is using a big car like you two.

By contrast, I live in Paris, France, I don't have a car, I don't even have a driving lesson, but you know what? Because of the traffic jam, the Metro is almost always faster than cars .

Am I the only one?

I take my amp in the gig bag, my small Barefaced One 10 on a trolley, and good to go for bars and small clubs. Looking forward to get a bigger cab for bigger stages, but it has to be under 15 Kg.

I try to do the same here in Montréal as often as possible. Light 1x12 cab, class D amp and pedalboard on a trolley, bass on my back. No parking? No problem! If there is no subway station near my destination then I use a car sharing service (basically car rental by the hour).

I've been living car free for nearly 10 years now and I'll keep it this way as long as I can. Cars are a bottomless money pit!

I’m just like you. I don’t drive, and travel to gigs by public transport. It works just fine, but if there is no backline, a trolley for an amp is essential.

Actually, a Subaru Forester just like you. I don't like the height of the back deck but aside from that it's just great.

The BEST vehicle for transporting a lot of gear with minimal effort is a Honda Element. Wish they still made those. My guitar player's got one and that thing is just fantastic to load and unload. Back end is maybe 14" off the ground. You don't have to lift anything, just tip it in.

I do envy the Europeans on this thread (and those I've met there) who just use club backline and have working public transit systems that get you to places you would want to go in a reasonable amount of time. One thing we just don't have in the states (SF and parts of NY have working transit, but not much in the way of decent club backline)

2020 Honda Fit (replaced a 2012 Honda Fit). I've done the "entire thing is filled with a small PA and multiple bass cabs + keyboard players amp and electric piano" thing successfully. Most of the time, everything I need for any indoor gig I'll have fits in the trunk without even putting the seats down.

You'd be amazed at how much gear I can fit into a '05 Yukon. And with the four wheel drive, I can go over the hill to Reno and Play, or South shore Tahoe.

I, too, take public transportation for some gigs. I travel by car for others.

My Bronco Sport fits all my gear and the guitar players gear in it if needed.

For local gigs I'm usually rockin' a 2017 Tiguan. I can get my biggest cab (Tecamp M212) in the cargo area with the back seat tilted forward a bit, no problem. And there's plenty of room in the 2nd row area for bass head, a bass or two, pedalboard hard case and bass stand.

I also play out of state with an artist who uses a Ford 15-passenger van (kinda looks like a Sprinter). Even with all guitar/bass/drum equipment, a full PA, any other accessories plus luggage there's ZERO issues with room. And still seating for ~6 people plus the driver!

I have a 15-passenger Chevy 1-ton van that I use to tow our travel trailer. I can carry all of the band's gear, and all of my band mates easily. However, parking can be a challenge, and it's definitely a gas hog.

My wife and I just talked each other OUT of buying a brand new Tacoma 4X4..... we can buy a lotta fuel for less than that monthly payment............
