How do you transport your gear?

Actually, a Subaru Forester just like you. I don't like the height of the back deck but aside from that it's just great.

The BEST vehicle for transporting a lot of gear with minimal effort is a Honda Element. Wish they still made those. My guitar player's got one and that thing is just fantastic to load and unload. Back end is maybe 14" off the ground. You don't have to lift anything, just tip it in.

I do envy the Europeans on this thread (and those I've met there) who just use club backline and have working public transit systems that get you to places you would want to go in a reasonable amount of time. One thing we just don't have in the states (SF and parts of NY have working transit, but not much in the way of decent club backline)

And, yea... hand trucks & transit are a thing in the EU and NYC.

If I do the 800+ I can take everything in one trip.

I drive a Grand Marquis so I can fit everything short of a fridge in there. Markbass CMD102P, pedalboard, as many basses as I feel like taking.

My SVT410HLF comes very close to fitting in the trunk...it's got the space, but the opening makes for some funky approach angles, which are very difficult for a 100lb+ crate at waist height BUT I haven't tried in years so I could be remembering incorrectly.

Next vehicle will probably be a Caravan. I'm an auto mechanic by trade, I've seen them all and a Caravan can't be beat as a cheap band vehicle that'll also get used as a commuter.

It really does depend on how good you are at Tetris, I used to fit a 3/4 upright bass in my Pontiac Sunfire.

Prius can handle most everything including a pair of berg 210’s, amp case, and pedaltrain 3 hard case in the trunk. It’s not the most inspiring car, but I can get all my gear in the car and still drive my two kids to school, while getting 45 mpg

410 Hartke slips right into the trunk. Extra room for stand, head and backpack.

Gator double bass bag on the back seat.

Ford Explorer if I need my 810.

Unfortunately, it looks like Amazon stopped selling the double bass guitar variety. It appears t be discontinued. It's a great bag. I'm glad I got it when I did.

I am currently a pickup truck guy.
The basic 2WD single cab is a good musician's rig: inexpensive w/ lots of cargo room. I usually leave speaker cabs locked up in the camper shell. It is very nice not to have to schlep those things up my stairs at 1 in the morning.
In 2030 my truck will turn 20 and I will turn 60. I will probably downscale to a smaller vehicle - and a smaller PA!

Mazda CX-5. My two Subway 1x12s and everything else fits perfectly without having to drop the back seat.

This is what I have, as well. Everything has to be able to fit in the trunk, so when I drop the kids off at home after the school run, I can throw my basses in the backseat and head to rehearsal. It dictates the maximum size of my rig.

A couple of weeks ago I had a gig that I took the bus to: TC Electronic BC208 in one hand, bass in the other, amp and pedals in a tool bag on my shoulder. Worked awesome, even with a transfer!

I’ve seen a lot of these since moving to London, I’m very tempted! Pricey upfront. They run on cake though of course so I imagine it would work out over a while.

I knew a DB player back when I lived in Beijing who got about on one of these electric trikes. Brilliant for playing hutong bars down narrow alleys.

"They run on cake" ! Reminds me of that meme about cars vs bikes. Cars: Runs on money and makes you fat. Bikes: Runs on fat and saves you money.
