I use a GMC Sierra pick-up with a cap. It easily hauls our PA gear and my bass rig. If we need to travel far, or need to ride together we rent a trailer to pull behind the Sierra. Over the years we've used vans and trailers, but for us this is working out better. It is an extended cab, so all the electronic gear travels in the cab.

How do you transport your sound rig?

Ford Contour baby! I've been using it for 3 years to haul my gear and it bears the interior scars of casters, cabs, and cases.
Depends on which band.... Either I haul my own setup in my pickup truck (sometimes plus subs, covered in garbage bags if rainy), or I carpool with a guitarist who has a minivan (with seriously tinted windows!).
If I'm not bringing lights, I can put my amp, basses, tote of cords, and emergency briefcase in the cab of my truck (amp gets front seat, basses behind seat). Don't think I'd want to haul a trailer, too hard to drive (did it once with a load of animals...whew!) and too tempting to leave everything in it. When the outside temp hits 90+ it's too much for equipment in a trailer! Van or truck (if you had a topper, even better....pita to have to go straight home).

Since Your question was two-fold and you already picked up a trailer, I just concentrate on our vehicles

I have two old, beat up vans. One slightly smaller (-87 Ford Transit), registered for 9, and another bigger (-93 VW LT35, a light truck really) but only for 6.
The Ford has a hitch, so if we need to have more people on the road we take the smaller one and a trailer if necessary.
The VW has an intercooled turbo engine so that's used mainly if it's just the band and the gear that's travelling.
Both vehicles have a separate ~2m long trunk and ~1.2m space for the passengers.

I built a trailer, 7'x 5' x6' high. Fits everything, but cost me around $2,500. to build. I tow it with my SUV. Great for lots of things
