How far do you have to travel for band practice/rehearsal ?

My main band is about 40 miles or so, but I take a train into the city, meet the drummer and we're off to the studio (anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours). On the way home I ride with the guitarist, who lives out my way. I contribute to gas, etc.

My second band is about 35 miles each way and involves numerous tolls (yay!). Both are weekly rehearsals at this point with summer gigs pending.

PITA.

30 minutes each way. Sometimes I just like it because I see it as a good chance to listen to music (I sing out loud in my car haha) but when it's late at night and I have to get up early to work it's kinda tiring. However it's the cheapest place and we like it (especially the ones who live 10 minutes away). I've been driving 30 minutes to rehearsals since I created my first band so I got used to it.
I had a big fight with the singer of my previous band though. She said that, since I had a car, I could go wherever it was best for her because she didn't have a car. That didn't end up so well

Generally, while some may have to travel an hour or more our location works because it's central. I have people coming from east and west that are an hour in each direction. So, the room is in the middle.

At one point I was in a band that was split between players here in Syracuse and in Utica, 45 minutes east of us. We alternated practices so that no any one had to make the long trip.

i was a singer for a little while for a band that practiced about 70 miles away, and in los angeles rush hour it took about 2 1/2 hours to get there and maybe an hour and a half back after rush hour had ended. other than that band, usually i've driven no more than 45 minutes to practice.

The rehearsal studio is central to the various band members, I live about half an hour away without traffic (an hour with).

But... it's about 7 minutes drive from my work. I get off work at 4.30 (if I do an hours overtime). Grab some food, do a bit of practice and catch an hours sleep or so. Start rehearsing at 7.

It's not worth me going home and back.

Have been driving a minimum of 45 minutes each way (Sometimes an hour) for the last three years. This every week.

i have to say.... i love it... i'm in a great band with great people so. I've never gotten in my car thinking 'i don't wanne go'.

That is exactly how I feel about my hour + each way.

I was wondering what I had let myself in for when I joined a start up band that far away but they are a couple of good, seasoned players and we had our first gig after a few rehearsals. The previous band had rehearsed at my house for 10 years so I was somewhat spoiled with not travelling and it came as a bit of a shock.

We have enough material now that we could stop rehearsing and rotate the songs for the foreseeable future but we are enjoying learning new ones so much so we do!

Commute is currently zero minutes as it is in my garage. That being said, I own the PA, plus we record every rehearsal into my Zoom R16, so its about 20 minutes every rehearsal moving gear into position and running cables and probably the same again to put everything away.
I think I have my wife convinced to let me build a second garage in the back yard with a loft on top. That way I can have reserved music space without the work every week. Of course, that comes with the challenge of paying for it.

Previously, my commute was about 20 minutes in my previous band. Everything was there, so my time effort was the same, just less fuel costs.
