How fast can you play?

12 notes a second walking, 18 notes a second running :P that wasn't ment to be a pun, thats achully what i can do, but I don't use it unlesss im pissing about or have a song where i need to do regular fills in which case 1 out of 100 fills maybe a 18 notes a second speed (tho in tempo so will vary with song) run.

"speed metal" is a genre. it's kinda like pre-thrash metal. early slayer, possessed, stuff like that. possessed is also considered death metal, and slayer is considered thrash, so it's hard to define.

I see.
Are those the Bands that people refer to when talking about "super fast playing" in the context of "metal"? It is nothing I am exposed to much at all.

Thanks for the info!:)

Well some people might, but todays modern death metal, deathcore and grindcore bands are playing at speeds that are a lot faster. They are about in the 250-270 bpm range, when the previously mentioned bands are somewhere around 200-220 bpm. Roughly put.

My all time favorite: Link Removed

you nailed it. metal is getting faster as it evolves, but i think it's probably reaching its peak

I'm 37 and I still listen to death metal for pleasure. (I don't usually play it with other people, though I'll try and play along to it in my house when I fancy a challenge.) It's certainly an acquired taste--I was in my teens when I learned to love it.

I've never owned a metronome or wanted to, so I can't figure it in beats a minute. I can play the bass line to most death metal tracks at the speed on the recording, but when I do, there are audible sloppy bits.

Fastest I can play cleanly is roughly top-speed metallica (excluding Mr Trujillo's solo bass wankery, of course).

will post as soon as I can be botherd to record, tho not much point as its not that impressive just fast, when ever i get a "wow thats fast" i tend to show them a groove on one note and tell them that its a hell of alot harder to do that well than it is to play fast. im not making up on the 12 notes and 18notes trust, i measured it pretty carefully
