How good are SX basses???...

Kurt is one of the best people to deal with. The guy won't give you the shirt off his back but he sure will jump through every hoop possible to make you happy. The ONLY times I have ever read of Kurt giving anybody any negative feedback is when the customer is being impossible to deal with.

I'd put an SX up against any comparative bass on the planet, provided I'm the one doing the work on them. They compare to Fender, Squier and many other foreign made basses. They aren't better, they are same-same.

If you cannot perform setups then you need to LEARN. Otherwise . . . aww nevermind . . . you'd never understand . . . or are not willing to try . . .

There's no such thing as perfection. You can pay over $1000 and still need a setup. And even if it doesn't immediately need a setup, IN TIME, as soon as you change your strings, you'd better know by then how to do one.

Back to Kurt, he one of the best.

I've never heard anything bad about Kurt either, and my experience suggests that he's a stand-up guy. I bought a 5-string fretless bass from him that arrived with some epoxy or something on the fingerboard and crooked pickups. He not only refunded all of my money, but mailed me a check for my return shipping charges! That's more than I would expect from any other online vendor I've ever dealt with.

A couple months after I returned that bass I ordered a Douglas WEB-846 from him that was great straight out of the box.

O.K. but that's out of over 20,000 sales.

That still leaves him with a 99.4% positive rating.

Honestly, almost everyone on here that's ever dealt wtih Kurt, myself included, has had nothing but good things to say about the guy. He has an EXELENT reputation.

I'm only stating that my experience with Rondo was horrible.

I'm not arguing with anyone who says that they've had a positive experience.

But I am going to call BS when necessary.

Even after I've said something negative about Kurt/Rondo people are still responding, "I've NEVER heard anything bad about Kurt or his service!" Um...

99.4% positive rating or not, Kurt was a complete arse to me. And I bet he'd have a lot more negative feedback if not for the fear of retalitory feedback. He did it to me. Good thing Ebay has since change their feedback policy.

Unless you've got the correspondence emails to substantiate your claim, may I suggest the subject be dropped? Even if Kurt was a total turd, it's admirable the way he handles customers and claims from probably 100 or more people a week (I guess). There are many, many, many times I've written to Kurt and thought he was short-siding me, but it was only his brevity that made it seem so. Cut the guy some slack, he handles so much volume it's a miracle the guy answers emails at all. Even when he doesn't have the time to deal with things he STILL does~!

Beathe in . . . breathe out . . . feel better now? I do . . .

The original poster asked for "any feedback" and that's what I gave.

What's the point of participating in a public forum if you can't handle a difference of opinion?

When you require everyone else to submit their correspondence emails to substantiate their claims then I'll consider submitting mine.

I'm sure you've heard the saying "the customers are always right." I'm not here to defend anyone, but in a service related business, customers meant everything(even if they are an arse.) If Kurt is too busy to give the time to customers, then maybe they should hire more help.

The implied disclaimer on pretty much anything written here is "YMMV"; can we please keep that in mind, folks?

On subject, I have been regularly gigging a Jazz 5 for nearly three years without any modifications whatsoever (although I am beginning to consider a few). To be fair, they are a tad heavy compared to, say, Fenders. I agree with lowtide that it would help if I could do my own setup, string changes, etc., but I am not at that point yet.

I have had infrequent correspondence with Kurt, but he always answers promptly. He even sent me a tone knob when I thought mine was bad and was prepared to order a replacement nut when I broke one (fortunately I didn't have to).

I can handle the negative opinions just fine. It just appears as though you have more of an axe to grind.

I didn't REQUIRE anyone to do anything. However, I don't really need it anyway judging by the way you wish to keep this tripe ongoing. It's too bad you had a bad experience. I have had probably 20 negative experiences with Kurt/Rondo through about 5 years, ALL of which were understandable once I became aware of his point of view and what it takes to run a business. I am still learning. Perhaps there's room for you too????

I don't care what the saying has been known to defend because the customer is NOT always right. And even if Kurt was 100% in the wrong, have YOU ever been in the wrong? Maybe he should hire more help. Maybe he should charge what the basses are worth so he will be ABLE to hire more help. Maybe if people didn't bitch so much about paying so little and expecting so much. EVERYBODY wants so much without paying for it. I'd definitely like to see these correspondences now that the issue is being pushed into this absurdity~!

The man is human . . . cut him some slack or just don't go back.

I have had Brice basses, some I've sold and one is still my main bass. I've had other basses from there as well and it's always a 50/50 type thing, not really knowing the extent one might have to go to to get a great instrument. But it's NO different anywhere else. Try to get someone from Fender to respond to concerns.

Kurt has jumped through everybody's hoops. He gives away free stuff too. Stand by a product and the product will stand by you. I know from 1st hand experience that the guy goes way beyond what he has to just to please the unpleasable. If Kurt bit someone I'm willing to BET it was because some twit was biting first.

Who's keeping it going? And who has turned it into "tripe"? That would be you, because I'm not arguing with anyone who's posted positively about Kurt. I'm just calling you on your BS.

How much do you want to bet?

I am of the firm belief that you get what you pay for. Sure there's going to be good and bad experiences when your dealing with a product that is under $200 as well as there would be with products $10,000 or more. Lets be realistic, SX is a cheap bass, if you happen to get a good one, count your blessings, but don't expect alot in the beginning and you won't be disappointed in the end. Just my $.02.:smug:

....don't mean to get political but it's bad enough that 1/2 the crap we buy/use (and soon dispose of) in daily life is purchased in support of a brutal dictatorship, but now your bass?....for what?... a few hundred bucks? Pay a little more and get alot more. If this trend continues you'll one day be able to buy your axe at Walmart. Just sayin'.

I have a SX 4banger and I have to say that its really good. The setup was decent when I first got it and the sound was good according to those who had heard me play it. If not for the fact that I have converted myself to a 5 string player, I will continue using this baby.
