How is the overdrive on Zoom multieffects?

Just a question that pops in my mind.

Reading info and manuals about those doesn’t give me a clear answer to the following question:

Is there an adjustment of the input level I would send to the multi and an output level control with those (all or any) multi?

The ideas are not to overload and make the effects peak with a signal that would be too strong and to be able to reach unity level when the pedal is bypassed.

Output yes, Input no.

I find the od and distortions on the MS 60-B to be pretty darn good. The Bass BB was virtually indistinguishable from the real thing, plus the bonus is that all (I think) od and distortion have a clean blend. The I can get B Squeak model to sound very close to my MXR M85. I also like the MS 60-B better than the Aftershock.

I think the is a youtube demo comparing the real BB and the Zoom. It was a good enough demo, that I didn't do one myself.

I don't have any issues switching my MS 60-B, and I have 5 different settings. You can just use it a s single pedal on/off or patch mode A/B where one patch is the dirt and the other no effect.

Yeah the original bunch of dirt sims on it were okay but nothing special, but they added loads of new ones with better algos and some of those are really good, I use those into an amp (while using b3n and gt-1B into speakers)

I’m starting to like the idea of simplifying my current setup with a single multieffect unit and Zoom products (B1on, B3n and MS60b) are on the top of my list.

My first concern was the bypass, but I own a G1on and I tested it’s bypass... No more worries, it’s perfect.

Second concern: overdrive!
I need it to be great, and it’s frequently the weakness of multis. I can’t seem to find any demos (videos) of a mild overdrive of these pedals! Can anyone tell me about it or point me to a decent demo? Perhaps one of the bass tube screamer model?

There are far better digital drives and options. Why not check out something like the Source Audio Aftershock?

Many suggested that option (including what I read elsewhere). I might try one if I can. The idea, though, would be to do more then just overdrive.

Another question, as I am tempted on the cheap side to either get the Ms-60b or the B1on. I will pretty much use a patch at once, that will get turned on and off, and I plan on leaving a few other of my pedals on the board (if needed).

The question: considering the 2017 firmware update, am I better off with the MS-60b or the B1on? I’ve heard about hiss issues with the 60b, but I tend to prefer it’s format and the fact that it was updated lately.

The most important part is the sound, though.

I especially enjoy the fuzzface, SansAmp and MXR models, also the rail tone from the maxed GK amp.
Is it the same as the original? No, for some uses it's better and it lacks for some other settings.
It works very well in the mix.

The thing with dist pedals, the originals themselves usually aren't up par with their legend and tend to sound weak compared to the image we have of them.

I’m pretty convinced now.

Only concern is which Zoom I’ll get. Aside from obvious differences in controls and flexibility, number of effects, etc. I’m trying to figure out if there is any difference in sound quality. Some said the 60b is hissy... true?

I did just this a few days ago and scored a used Aftershock, hopefully it'll arrive this coming week. For the price though I still really wanna check out the B3n, I've been thoroughly impressed by all the demos

B3n is better but there are some great sounds to be had with the ms60b into an amp. The B3n also sounds good into an amp but better into speakers imo.

I don't use a lot of distortion/overdrive in my sound typically, but have had good results either using the Ibanez TubeScreamer sim at low to moderate gain levels, or kicking the gain up on the SVT amp sim. YMMV.

I have a zoom b3 and I would say that some of the distortion models are quite decent. while other were meh. it all about personal tastes really. I personally like the metal zone, the odb-3, the proco rat, tube-screamer, and the xotic bass bb for dirt. especially when used with amp models. right now, I plan to upgrade to the zoom b3n sometime soon. I'm really intrigued by the darkglass models that multi-effects processor provides.

I’m using a Zoom B1Xon and those are my favorites too. The Rat almost blew a hole through my head when I first used it. Instant feedback, and (I thought) a pretty near perfect Rat clone, or at least as good as most other ones.

I just (finally!) found videos and audio demos of interesting enough dirt sounds from Zoom to get me to want to try them out. Only problem: the only model available in a store around town is the B1on, which is at the bottom of my list (I tend to prefer the flexibility of the B3n and MS60b in terms of switching one or more effects on or off in a patch). I guess it will give me an idea of the sound so I could decide if I’d order another model.

The free third party software Tonelib makes the B1on and B1Xon *much* much more usable. I can’t say enough good things about the two of them together.

A lot of the opinions here are based on the B3/B1on/MS-60B. I agree with a previous poster that only the BB and Sansamp models were usable for me.

However the B3n contains a reasonably good Darkglass simulation, which is a game changer!
