How long an instrument cable do I need for live show?

Um ... the conductor length doesn't change. Whether it's stretched full length or fully coiled, the conductor length (which is what affects the signal) is the same.
This is what I do as well. While it's a problem not to have a long enough cord, it's also a pain to have too long a cord such that it's underfoot, plus as mentioned there can be some tone deterioration. Typical would be an 8 ft cord between bass and board and 15 foot board to amp - but I've done every variation on that theme. And you definitely want a 20 or two in your bag just in case ...
Can't do wireless, as there is no room on my pedal board for the receiver. Plus I do wireless in ear, so I already have 1 transmitter/receiver hanging from my belt. I use a 25 ft. spring coiled cable from bass to pedal board, so there is little or no slack. I then use the appropriate length cable from board to amp. (I use a radial DI, so it is really board to DI, then short cable to amp)
Well, to get super technical, the conductor actually CAN stretch due to temperature changes, but just a little bit.
EXACTLY. There are a lot of wireless rigs to choose from these days and you can get a pretty good wireless rig for cheap money that will handle any average size stage without cutting out from what am have read while looking in to them. Even Line 6 has refurbished ones on their website for cheap money. They have a refurbished relay G90 wireless system for $359.99 that usually sells for $839.99 and has a reach of 300ft. It works with guitars or basses. I don't play out and am a long ways away from bring good enough to play shows with a bass but when I do, I will definitely be going wireless on anything I can possibly do it to lol. I think of all the cables I have had get destroyed, lost, left behind, stolen and problems through the years and how much money I threw out the window on them.
I could just go wireless, get an extra backup wireless and never have to worry about it again. Definitely the better route to go! I also just spent an arm and a leg on more Livewire guitar cables, patch cords and 3ft'ers. Back in the day they didn't warranty cables like they seem to do today. Also with having two dogs who run all over the house all day, using cables is a pain in the butt. I ordered one of those Lock-It 2" cotton straps and it works extremely well. It was a little bit of a tight fit on my Dean Razorback but fit my Yamaha TRBX304 bass easier. The bass will never pop off that strap. I highly recommend checking them out. GC seems to have them in stock at their stores but I got mine off of Amazom from the company who makes them - Lock-It Straps. It has a spring mechanism inside the ends that pushes a locking mechanism in to the strap buttons to hold it in place. Definitely worth the extra protection. Especially when you loop a cable through the back strap area so it doesn't get kicked out on stage. I wonder how many straps have been pulled off that way lmao. Okay that's not really funny because having your bass do a end first dive onto the ground has to be a horrible thing! Just thought I would pass along a good product that actually works.
