How long did you lurk before joining?

West By God
Just like the title says… I lurked around here for 2-3 years before I actually joined. Judging by my post count, I’m still mostly a lurker. I’m mainly here to look at cool basses and occasionally learn something from the more knowledgeable members. Im also not above admitting that a good old fashioned train wreck thread is always entertaining.

A year, year and a half maybe?

I know I picked up on MARKBASS and NEO cabs from reading TB before I joined.

Never thought of joining until some basses got stolen from my house. Figured it would be a good idea to help put the word out.
What a crap reason to have to join. My friend had his favorite Jackson guitar stolen from his house. When everyone figured out it was the local crackhead that swiped it he threw it into the river to try to hide the fact.

Did you ever recover any of yours?

Seven years later the basses showed up at an auction that included things from police evidence rooms.

A local musician/club owner/friend of mine went to the auction to buy things for the bar and bought them not knowing they were stolen and showed them to other friends who knew they were mine.

I got lucky!

I can't recall. I DO remember being at a different (smaller) Bass Site, that I enjoyed (& trusted), and lot of those folks always said "don't even bother with TB, a bunch of people who think they're better than everyone else, treat newbies like :poop:, . Yada yada.."

So for the longest time I didn't even lurk. HOWEVER, small sites can get boring quickly, (and I need constant gratification for my zesty/clever/fun posts), so I'd swing by occasionally.. JUST to see.

Well, there were SO many threads to read/learn from. In the beginning, I actually DID think lots of folks here were 'Course" to newbs, (as I was told), although I misunderstood alot of the context. It can be quite taxing to see the same questions posted over/over BUT I understand the questions. They aren't here every day, so they don't know that question has been asked (& answered) 100X before. Jesus, there I go again with the rambling.

*** was the question? Right.. 🤔

TLDR: Probably about a year or so.

I lurked for years, maybe even 5-6? Don't know. Finaly created account in 2011.
I could find all info that I needed without account, but I decided I should contribute as this was important source of info for me, so I should give something back. Well giving something back since then, and sometimes it's even smart and usefull :)

I lurked even after joining. I didn't start posting regularly for a few years after making an account.
