How Long To Let Nitro Instrument Warm Up From Cold?

Hey Everyone--

Just took shipment of a new Fender USA Reissue '57 P Bass finshed in nitro (although I believe the finish is not pure nitro, it's a poly/nitro mix???)

The hang tag on the case says wait 24 hours before opening the case. It was 35 degrees when the bass was delivered, bass case was cold to the touch.

Should I wait the 24 or is a lesser time ok, warming up to room temp in my house? Trying not to have finish checking.

Had the same concern when I bought my Eric Johnson strat in '07. Left mine in the cardboard box and case inside the house for the full 24 hours not to take any chances. It was a long wait but I didn't want to risk it.

Seriously, I'd just give it a few hours until this evening. Then open and enjoy.

Meh, instruments have been surviving Canadian winters for 60 years without imploding. Just leave it in the case for an hour on a warm room, off the floor. 24 hours! Neil Young and The Guess Who never would have been if they thought like that. The main effect of abusing an instrument like this is MOJO..

Oh, that Canadian maple neck you have froze every winter for decades before it was killed and put to proper use.

3 or 4 hours is enough. The danger is, if the bass is very cold, and you open it in a warm room, the finish will expand faster than the wood, possibly causing cracking/ checking. But if you think about it, a bass case really isn't insulated at all. It doesn't take long for the temp inside to reach the temp outside.
