That one I practice with.I disagree. Different basses have different tones, sure, but you're right that we can get around that. But different basses also have different numbers of frets (including none), different numbers of strings, different fretboard radiuses, and so on. They play differently. Some things are more easily or just better done on one instrument than another.I've always been of the mindset that you really only need one good bass and a better set of ears at any gig. I mean, after all, we've got EQ on the bass, on the amp and you can even add another EQ rack if you'd like. The only real difference is from one instrument to the next is the EQ curve. Master that and you only need to carry one bass. Imagine the convenience and peace of mind. You put your bass on and it stays on you for the whole gig. I'd rather concentrate on the music I'm making then to fuss with all the equipment. But hey that's just my take. Good luck.
