I am down to 4 and they are used in functional roles.

3: A bass that lives in my home office/studio used for practice. Tuned standard.
4: A bass that lives in my home office/studio used for practice. Tuned E flat. A cheaper Frankenstein bass I use for beach gigs. Salt air is a bitch on electronics and instruments!

The collection is slowly growing...

1960's EB-O -- not currently working. Needs broken headstock fixed -- bad glue job by previous owner.
1960's Hagstrom F400 -- in pieces. My first bass, bought for 6 bucks in 1974. Really want to get it restored.
1966 Fender Jazz with '89 fretless rosewood neck, Olympic White. Seymour Duncan hot-wounds
1976 Fender Precision with fretless maple neck, Surf green. (re-finished). Seymour Duncan hot-wound. my favorite bass, currently.
1964 Gibson Thunderbird II. (I think it was re-varnished at some point before I bought it, still, it's the real deal)
1970 Gibson Les Paul bass. The short-scale original model with the pot cavity routed from the back. Low impedance.
1989 Mexi-Jazz with Seymour Duncan hot-wounds. Tobacco sunburst. Was my daily player until just this year when I bought:
1998 Mexi-Precision, black, with Seymour Duncan quarter-pounder. Just stumbled upon a GREAT neck, & the pickup was worth half of what I paid for it. It goes to all my cover gigs.

On permanent loan from a friend: 1979 Rick 4001, black with white binding. Needed one for a Yes tribute band, and while he paid for it, I'm the guy who plays it all the time. He wants to sell it to me, but...

My daughter has a 90's Mexi-Tele bass she wants to give me because she doesn't play it, but I need to get it from Colorado, somehow. I'd like to put flats on it for a good blues bass.

I just got a 2nd Sadowsky. These basses are EVIL! They will obsess you!. I just paid more than I had ever considered paying for a bass to get an 18 YO Sadowsky. It hit me so hard that I got another, as I pretend to not be planning a custom P/J WL in ash/ebony.
