How do you find the Status neck?
I've been offered a Status MM5 CF neck new and uninstalled and am going to ask a local luthier for a quote for a body (not a MM clone) to attach it to. I have a Status S3000 but that's a full CF monocoque, so not equivalent.

How do you find the Status neck?

I have a Status 5 string neck on one of my basses (not a Stingray) but also have 6 other Stingrays and Sterlings to compare. Summary - the Status graphite neck is what Stingrays should be like when they are perfect. It plays very comfortable, allows ultra low string action, no "artificial" clean or cold tone and seems to be completely insensitive against temperature or moisture. It does not feel cold like alloy or artificial when played. It feels glossy off factory but I rubbed it with fine grade steel wool which makes it feel like satin finished wood. And last but not least - it looks cool. I absolutely love it.

There are just two disadvantages. It's rock hard which requires every screw to be predrilled with hardened steel drills. And it's expensive.

Down to five, and then back up to six. Sold the G&L LB100 (fretted) and immediately picked up a Fender Vintera Mustang. She joins the G&L LB100 (fretless), Rickenbacker 4003, G&L JB2, Gibson Midtown, and a Dean Pace EUB.

^^ Thank you TheBass. I'm OK with CF necks as I have an XL2, Status S3000 and a Kawai KRB105 and thought it would be nice to have a 5er as well and the total project would work out cheaper than a factory BO Status as I already have some parts and could get the body made locally.

As at this moment I can't contact my friend who owns the neck and he may have sold it, so a moot project. My keyboardist, when told of this this morning, she pointed at my Conklin and asked "what exactly do you plan on improving with this (Status neck project)?"

It's cool for sure. I have a 4 string, 21 fret neck without fret markers on the fretboard on an older SR4 body. It is really stable and very clear up and down the neck. Here's a picture of it:

So I voted a while back and still have just 3 Basses.

Rotated through a few to find the “ones”, and 3 is where I can easily breathe.

It's cool for sure. I have a 4 string, 21 fret neck without fret markers on the fretboard on an older SR4 body. It is really stable and very clear up and down the neck.

The one I was offered looks the same but 5. I'm not a fan of PGs or control plates so mine would be rear routed. I have a Schaller bridge and 4 IL Gotoh 707 tuners, so most of it is in hand.

So 2 it is. One in one out from here on. Until we buy a bigger house at least.
