How many different pickup configurations do you have?

I’ve got 4 different configurations with some additional variety among them.

- Precision
- Jazz
- ATK (big fat bridge humbucker similar to a Stingray, but can be switched to single coil)
- ATK + single coil in neck position (again the ATK pickup in the bridge has coil options so this bass can be run like a jazz or an “HS” bass)

P, J, PJ, H (Ray), HH (L-2500).

The one-pickup basses (P and Ray) are one trick tone ponies. If you need that one thing they do, you need em.

The J has a classic tone, of course, and the PJ has some versatility.

But the L-2500 can basically do it all, or close enough. Active, passive, series, parallel.

- split coil P (Squier VM Precision V)

They cover a lot of ground!

All my Fenders and FSO's are P or PJ passives, all with the exact same pickups so they sound as identical as possible if I want to swap out occasionally. I have found my sound and I'm sticking with it. Now I do have other basses with different pickups, but I rarely use them onstage anymore.

I have a Lakland Skyline JO and I am looking to buy a second bass. I have been considering a Sandberg TT, but I wonder if it's too similar since they're both JJ configurations. Maybe I'll buy a P-style bass instead.

No. I have a PJ, and I guess my Warwick is an active JJ...

I have different basses. Mostly 7enders, original PU configurations. P single and split coil ('51-type, '54 type, after '57-type). Jazz and Tele. And I use also different strings for different sounds. La Bella Jamerson, Thomastik and 7ender 9050. For ex. P bass sounds quite different with La Bellas and mute compared to P with 9050-strings without a mute. And using different tone control settings.
Now I use mostly a Tele (original single coil, 8,6 kΩ) with 9050's. It is surprisingly versatile.

I have a P and a double humbucker as my mains - though the humbuckers are blended in such a way that they resemble a split coil as closely as possible. I only deviate from that when I need that bridge pickup burp (for Jaco pieces mostly).

So it's basically one sound for me.

I own a Player's Series Jazz V with Nordstrand Big J-Blades, and I just installed the same pickups into my Warwick Streamer but with a different preamp, they don't sound anything alike at all lol. I also have a set of EMG 40J in my G&L Tribute L2500, which sounds more like the Fender, but not quite. One thing I noticed between the Warwick & Fender was distance of both pickups from the bridge. The Fender was I THINK 1/2 inch farther away (with both pickups) from the bridge than on the Warwick. I'll have to measure again to be certain.

Lots. P's, J's, P/J, Rics, Gibson Ripper, Prestige Violin bass (singles, but in a Hofner spacing), Modern Player Tele (dual humbuckers. Like the Ripper, sort of.), P/Mudbucker.
