How many different pickup configurations do you have?

-P- Standard P bass
JJJ Triple J
H-- Neck strat humbucker
-H- Guitar blade humbucker in P position.
--H Bridge guitar humbucker
-PP double P in the Jazz positions
-S- P90ish single coil in P position
SS- Tele single coil in neck and middle position (haven't quite dialed this one in yet)

Most of my time is spent with the middle humbucker bass because it sounds great and the Triple Jazz because it looks great.

None of them have Tone controls most don't have volume controls, so I usually pick a bass just cause I want to play it and adjust my plucking or picking to get the tones I want. Sometimes I pick one for a specific vibe but not usually.

#1 - J/MM -by far my favourite combo
#2 - P
#3- Standard J. (I will be moding this one because it’s a feeble beast. Thinking PJ but might rout the body for J/MM)
Basement warrior,
Try wiring the Jazz pickups in a series. A little snip and solder won't cost you anything unless you want to add a switch to go back to and forth from seiris or parallel mode. Sorry in advance for the unsolicited advice.

I have 3:

P solo
J-MM-piezo
J-J-piezo

And the P style has been the only bass I've played for about a year and a half. Flats. Passive. Fretwrap. She sounds like a dream. Tom Clement did me right, as I've said many times before.

I have a Lakland Skyline JO and I am looking to buy a second bass. I have been considering a Sandberg TT, but I wonder if it's too similar since they're both JJ configurations. Maybe I'll buy a P-style bass instead.

Do you own multiple basses with the same pickup configuration? Or do you try to have a variety of pickup options available? How do you approach tone variety?

I have 7 basses and all sound different to my ears. I have combinations of JJ, PJ, soapbars with single coils, and soapbars with split coils. My favorite sounding combination is a bass with two passive Nordstrand Big Splits - neck is an Alnico V and bridge is Alnico III. Both pickups full on and with tone full up on both.
