I didn't vote because mine varies.

I use all five on my plucking hand for different situations.

If I'm slapping and popping: Thumb, Index, and sometimes middle if I need it

Fingerstyle: index, middle, ring mainly, but I incorporate the pinky in there sometimes too. It all depends. Sometimes I'll use only one finger.

See ya

Well, I assume you mean how many fingers on the picking hand. But you didn't say.

I use 2 - index and middle. I occasionally use my thumb (only when using my fingers would cause me to damp a string I want to let ring). And on my fretting hand I use 4, all but the thumb.

And I've been playing bass for five years.

i think i've posted already...

- i mainly use three on the picking hand, index, middle and thumb.. but i also use my ring finger fairly regularly... triplets and the odd chord etc...
so i guess 4 :)

fretting i use four, obviously... any electric bassist/guitarist who doesnt use all four fingers to fret is an idiot!!!

Yeah what's with that? I won't go as far as saying they're idiots, but using your pinky is very very very necessary here people.

I can make bigger stretches and fret more consistently and reliably with my ring finger. My pinky is really short compared to my other fingers. So it only gets brought into action as a reserve, in case I need to fret a new note while the ring finger is occupied. :)

depends, on my electric bass I use index and middle then rest my thumb on the neck pickup whereas on my acoustic bass I use thumb index and middle, mainly coz I sit down more to play it and it's bigger so my arm is in a different position and there's no thumb rest on it.

I'm suprised when i hear not too many use ring finger but rather the pinky. But anyways i use all four index to pinky and my two dominant fingers are index and ring.

On my right hand, my slap is a mess. still learning but playing normal plucking style i use index and middle but im trying to learn how to throw thumb in there so i can do back and forth between 2+ sting hops easilier
