How many of us sing while playing?

I do. I sing backup most of the night and lead on a few. Fronted a working band for a little while but I hated it. Charismatically challenged is the clinical term I believe.

My band now has 2 lead singers. The BL and me. He does most of the tunes, and I sing several to give him a break. I sing a lot of harmony too.

I said "yeah" in the poll because I do sing lead on some songs I've written. But it has been a while since I was in a group where I sang lead vocals and even then, I was not the made lead vocalist for most of the songs

Bassists who can sing get more work than those who don’t, and it’s gotten me gigs over much better bassists who can’t.

I'm pretty shy about lead singing. Some people like it when I sing lead & urge me to do more. That's nice of them to say, but I do not concur.
I do enjoy and take pride in doing background vocals.

I find the opposite to be true. I have joined many bands since I started playing again five years ago, but when I show how I can sing lead it is usually threatening to whoever the designated singer is, and I am rarely given the opportunity to do it. As a backing singer it adds something, but if you want to sing lead and you are good at it you might find that's a problem unless you're willing to start your own band.

Have a baritone voice best suited to singing ballads. 2 1/2 octave range, can do Chris Isaac spot on. Unfortunately, the band does mostly blues and rock where a gravelly voice is needed. Baritone and falsetto voice not high enough for harmony parts. Johnny Cash anyone?

Guitar and singing? No problem. Bass and singing? Very difficult for me.
