How many people here really have a Pre-CBS fender

Hello!

So I am curious how many people really have a pre CBS fender P/Jazz bass.

I sold so much gear and I am down to my best player revolite Modulus. Been pondering the idea of adding the grail to my arsenal. Or am I better off with a reissue?

Either way, I’m really interested to see who has them and if you actually play them out.

63 jazz here. Re finned years ago and refretted, so very much a player's bass.

I have a '55 P, '58 P, '62 J and a 64 P and play every one of them. (And a '64 Thunderbird IV...which is likely the most amazing bass I own--and more rare than any of the Pre-CBS Fenders.)

my '65 BASS V is a rare cusp model in that it was Leo's lass Fender bass design yet CBS was technically the new owners as production was already rolling along. whether or not my bass has lingering traces of Leo's DNA on it or not I'll never know but when I finally get the neck warp dealt with I'd have no issues gigging it ...with an armed guard. I have a pic from decades ago but no scanner, you'll have to trust me lol

Although it was around the same time, the Mustang was actually the last bass Leo designed for Fender (debuted in 1966).

I treat everything that @The Bass Clef says as gospel.

This man owns more of the original pieces of bass history than any museum or institution that I know of. He is truly blessed.

I'm aware! that's why I erred on the side of edification lol I'm one who prefers to be educated, or if need be proven wrong cos then I'll be right. the whole pre-CBS conundrum has always fascinated me and why I jumped on the V when I saw it for chump change in the '80s knowing it was an awesome entry into that rare air world. then to hear THE Motown sound burst out of it thru 6L6s and a pair of VOTs was a life changing moment.

My '61 Jazz stackknob rarely leaves the house, I only use it for recording. My '09 MIA Jazz Deluxe plays and sounds nearly as good so that gets the bulk of gigging.
