How many people use a 5 string but string it EADGC?

I have my 5 tuned BEADG

I kind of want to try F# B E A D

It might be worth a try after I buld my 37"->32" fanned fret.

Lots of folks seem to swithch out the nut or will say that you need to change the nut. This isn't completely tru because while i have WANTED to change the nut and nut material just to try and alter the tone, I have never NEEDED to change the nut. It has been through two tunings and about 6 different gauges string and i still see no reason that i would have to change it.

Steve Digiorgio, the bassist for Sadus and a highly respected free agent in the metal community, sets up his basses with EADGC tuning, and prefers to leave the nut as is to drop the action as close to the neck as possible, to get his signature "clacking" sound. On the latest Sadus album, he had a bass tuned in BEADG dropped down a half steup, and he simply took one of his EADGC basses and restrung them with the thicker gauges which the bass was designed for, and it worked fine.

I do. I don't like B's. Don't have much need for the low notes and up past the 5th or 7th fret or so I don't like the sound of the string.

I have both! LeCompte tuned EADGC and a Peavey TL-5 tuned BEADG. I play blues/rock. It just depends on the song.

I strung my 5ver eadgc for a while, I liked the high c but missed the d on the b string so I went back to beadg.
So now I am looking aroung for a 6 string to get the best of both, but I am having trouble finding a 6 where the fret board is not so wide as a 1x8 plank of wood.....
I would probably tune the c string to b however, to keep similar finger patterns on it and regular guitar.

The first 5 string Bass that Fender brought out in the 60s was tuned EADGC, so it's nothing new.

I've got 2 5-strings. One of them is tuned BEADG and the other is tuned EADGC. Depending on the song that I'm playing(or the band I'm playing in), I switch between those two at will. The high C string(aside from a drink reference from when I was a kid) sounds great to me, but isn't useful for everything I play. When I need the low B, I've got it without a problem.
