I wouldn't play in a band that required more than my 25 W Ampeg can deliver to properly fit in. It's just a matter of making music in an enjoyable and sensible matter. YMMV though.

Hearing loss is a serious and a very real consequence of loud music.

Or as I'd call that, not quite loud enough to practice in the bedroom.

It really depends. Most of the time 200W combo will work fine in the little clubs we play and even some outdoor gigs, with 2 guitarists. Not sure how loud you guys play but there is such thing as TOO loud. If my 200W wont' cut it, I'll just get my 1000W out, and if that don't cut it, I quit, lol

There is a reason the 810 cab from ampeg and fender are the standard in rock bands where 100w guitar heads are the norm. I have one but only bring it out if the guitarist is using more than 50w. Some guitarist haven't made the change to switchable wattage amps which can generate the same overdrive at less output.

Also, it's weird that 47% of poll respondents (so far) run more than 500w. I'm struggling to understand why so many people do this if all they needed was more cabs.
mine is 1200 Watts @ 4 ohms.

I gotta good deal on it -that's why I have 1200.

would likely never need that much; my cabs can handle about half of that; I refuse to play louder.

Me I just run one amp....... Carvin B2000. 700@ 8 ohms and 1300@ 4ohms. I guess if I want to get crazy I can put a 2ohm load to it and get 2050 watts. But as it stands the 1300 watts through my fEARful 66 is more than I will ever use. To be honest the 700watts into a fEARful 15/6/1 covers most of my needs. I just like the big boy so I can fill a room without working it very hard.

I just can't imagine using 8's. I mean, that's the size of my sound system's subwoofer. Im just a big speaker kind of guy. I used a 210 and a 410 and I didn't like the sound I got from them, 15's are my best friends. I figured a 412 would melt my face off because of all the ''mid-boosting'' they have.

Excuse me if im being ignorant, i'm relatively new to the game, so I might not be seeing things the way I should. I think it's just because I didn't like the sound of anything I got below 12 inches, so it's like im hindering myself or something.
That SWR Henry the 8x8 is a fantastic cab. I have 2 that I used on backline dates for dozens of different bands and it didn't matter what head I used it with, it always sounded great. Always a good complement to what was driving it. Good feel on stage and good projection. They made two versions. One with a back ports, one with front ports. Again, doesn't matter. They both sound the same somehow. Go find one. You'll thank me.
