How much did you pay for your first bass?

$75 in 1979 plus $100 for a Gibson Thor bass amp. This is not my original bass, just one I found on the net that is identical. Sold it after HS to help my soon to be wife out. Wish I had kept it, the bass that is not the ex wife

Paid $35 for a used JCPenny Harmony P Bass copy AND 5 inch mini-amp in the mid-80's. Later sold it for $40(!) and used it towards a new Peavey Patriot and Basic 50 amp.

1987, $100 - '67 Gibson EBO in rough shape. I was only 9 years old, so my dad bought it for me. Well, he bought it for the family, but I took to it...

The first bass I ever paid for myself was a '92 Yamaha RBX350. We got it from a family friend who was a Yamaha dealer and had it drop-shipped in a hardshell case for about $250-300 or so. That was a GREAT bass...

Had a bug to play bass, wet to GC came home with a VM Squier and Rumble 15.

Never looked back!

Still have the amp and bass.

Around 200 bucks (well; the equivalent of that in guilders, which we used to pay with in the Netherlands, "pre-Euro") for a Hohner PJ bass.
Around 100 bucks iirc for a Solton Bassgun

the year before ..1973 .. he got me my first guitar .. a 1957 Gibson ES225TC w/factory bigsby .. $125 ..!

many things from the mid 70's thru the mid 90's are rather fuzzy and hard to remember ... sadly starting drinking as I started playing ( at around 14 ) I got pretty good at both ..! playing rock was quite a change from my previous 10 years of classical piano training ..!!

Blast from the 80s!! I picked up this sweet 1975 Jazz bass from Music Inn in Greenwich Village NYC in 1985 for 450 bucks

. Put a Bad Ass and Alembics Activators in it. Miss it dearly! Miss the hair too!

My first was a Chevy J Bass i bought used in mint condition for, i can't remember, $250 or $280 (1994). My head was a Peavey Mark IV i bought for $250 a little later and the cab was a no name 1x10 + 1x15 for less than $200.
I sold the J 2 years later to fund a Carvin and fried the 10" speaker of the cab when running the Peavey with four cabs at 2 ohms. The rest of the cab stayed with an ex-roommate when i moved in the late nineties. I still got the Peavey though. I keep it. If i survive the nuclear war, i'll need a head that's still working and i doubt that my Class D heads will stand a nuclear blast.

Try as I might, I don't remember what I paid, but in 1973 I washed dishes in a Chinese restaurant until I could afford my first bass and amp, a short scale Silvertone Telecaster copy identical to the picture below:

And a small Fender bass amp that I remember very little about.

1st bass: Jan '85, a new Peavey Patriot, black w/ maple fretboard. $315
1st amp: Jan '86, a new Peavey Basic 50. $150 if I recall correctly. I used a Hitachi boom box as an amp for the first year while I was learning. I plugged into it using RCA cables and various adapters. It was a sight to behold!

I started playing in the late 70s but used a friends bass and amp until around 1980. My first bass was a Washburn B20, my first amp was a Peavey Combo, 300 watts and one 15 inch speaker. I think I paid $200 for the bass and $150 for the amp.
