Around 1970 I got a Conrad Beatle bass for less than 100 dollars (anyone remember Conrad?) I used an old guitar amp with one 12 in speaker. I don't remember the amp brand but they are long since out of business.

13 years ago. Cort precision. 149. Great bass that I eventually did a horrible job repainting, then parted out
'92- '93 Fender Squire Jazz paid @ $300. I changed the pups to Bartolinis and the bass sounded awesome. I played through my church's Peavy 1x15 combo and practiced at home through a Fender guitar amp. I didn't buy my first amp until '95, it was an Eden WT-300 paired with an Eden 4x10
I didn’t pay for my first bass and amp, my parents bought them for me as an early Christmas present in the fall of 1988. It was an Epiphone Power bass, and I do recall it cost $225. I don’t remember how much the amp cost, it was a 50 watt combo with a 15” speaker. I still have the amp, found it in my garage the other day. I sold the bass a few years ago.
$130; which was TOO much for a bowed-neck Squier Affinity P-Bass but I didn't know any better... Wouldn't change a thing though!
1979. I worked at Burger King after school and bought my self a Kent Jazz Bass copy in 3TB with a chipboard case and a tolex Kustom 1 amp. I think the entire rig was like $400. I blew the amp up using my buddy's Electro-Harmonix LPB-1 when I decided that 30 watts wasn't enough.
1973 Pbass in Roanoke va, out of a trading post for 300 (probably talked him down to 275???). It was just old at that point, now it's "vintage".... I wish I could sell it, as I never use it, but you can't sell your first bass.
1976 Used Gibson EB-1 for $125; Kustom Casion 4x10 combo amp $125 - horrid, farty thing - (parents bought them for me).
1977 New Fender J bass - $335 with case. Again, parents. I should have held out for the Rick - that J bass was *terrible*.
I can't recall what my next amp rig cost, but it was a Sunn concert bass head over a 4x12 LH. Nice sounding, loud rig, as I recall. I think the whole thing was around $800 - I can't remember.

1975--Aria Beatle Bass $250 w/yellow lined case and a Goya "The Tokyo Sound" 100 watt bass combo amp $200 at a local "Mom and Pop" shop (Rugg's Music in Seaford, DE) and she let me pay $100 down and $10 week til it was paid off
199 in 1987. Total POS pj from eu wurlitzer, 'rock star guitars' brand. Plywood junk with emg passives. I knew nothing, and could not afford a real bass. That was a terrible decision. With it a total pos Roland combo. Salesmen offloaded junk on the excited young kid.
My first bass was an "American" made Fender JP-90. $300 + tax from the old GC in Sherman Oaks near Van Nuys on Ventura.
1970 - a Kent semihollow with action like a hunting bow.... and a tiesco head and twin 15 open back cabinet purchased from an old country dude who used to play for Tammy wynette..
I got my first bass on a trade in the '80's. A white Kramer Striker 200 guitar for this Ibanez Destroyer that I still have.

In 1985-86 I bought a purple BC rich warlock and some little peavey combo amp. (Cut me some slack, glam metal was in full swing). I'm pretty sure the body was made of plywood. Cost about 350.00 at the time, which was a fortune to a 15 year old.
I wish I had a picture! And I wish I still had it! Probably a late 60s or early 70s Lyle purchased in 1976.

I got my first bass in 1965. It was a Candy Apple Red Teisco Del Ray and if I remember correctly it cost $79 including a cord, strap and chipboard case.
My mother loaned me the money to buy it and I had to work washing dishes at a Mexican restaurant for about 4 months to pay her back. It was a part time after school job paying 65 cents per hour.
