Double Bass How much does your NYE gig pay?

It’s been a lot of years since I played a NYE gig. Back when I was gigging the bars I used to hate playing NYE - always seemed like people were desperate to prove they were having a good time while way over-imbibing. The last bunch of years my wife and I have hosted regionally themed dinner parties with our friends where we start eating around 8 and aim to finish with dessert at midnight. This year we’re doing middle eastern food!

My pay was a decent multiplier above regular gig pay. It was 4:30 to 8 PM at a retirement home, two sets in different parts of their facility. Five minutes from my house. I've been doing it for more than a decade, except for during the lockdown when it was cancelled.

It's with a great group of players whom I go way back with, and a super appreciative audience. Jazz trio, drummer sings, requests encouraged. Home by 8:30.

Same here. Easy 10-12:30 hit at a brewpub with two friends who were once great grad students in our program at the U. Both good players and even better people. I bought the weekly household groceries with cash this morning and still have over 60% of the gig pay left over. Life is good!

I played electric bass with the same four-piece band that I played New Year’s Eve with 25 years ago! I don’t recall what made back then, but this time around we made $500 each.

It was more than usual but it wasn't worth the scary drive home that night. The fireworks were cool though.

It's been decades since I played on New Years Eve, which I consider a silly excuse for a party. When I did, it was always around double the normal pay.

I don't get paid for playing ... I get paid for shlepping, learning new material, staying up late, and putting up with you-know-what. If there's a substantial amount of those things, I need more money.
