How much is this mangled MTD actually worth?

Was looking into MTD's shortscales, which sound fantastic, a usable low B at 30' is pretty impressive. While browsing I found this, it's been absolutely mangled, how much do you think it's worth in this condition, and would it even be possible to restore it back to it's active glory? Guys looking for a passive MTD may be in luck with this one.

I hesitate to ever wade into a 'what's it worth?' conversation about a company I work for, but this is a wild one. So, with that stipulation... I think the person who did the work was very clean and intentional. I think whoever buys this bass should want this bass as-is. I've been in the game for a long time and I've seen some things ::1000 yard stare:: I wouldn't call this mangled, but it's absolutely it's own thing!

For the price they're asking, you might as well order a new 630 built to your taste. Getting this bass back to something resembling its stock form is going to cost an arm and a leg and it'll never quite get there. A plain mahogany body, maple neck and rosewood board is pretty close to the least expensive possible combo.

I'll say this, the 630 surprises the heck out of me every time I pick one up. It seems like such a weird little bass and then you pick it up and it all makes sense. With the right strings the B on the 30" is awesome and the form factor is really comfy. Could definitely see one of these in my future!

I agree, if the mods are not what the OP wants, then just pass and order a 630 that suits your tastes.

Yep, agree with the above comments from DJMtd

The one good thing is that Unicorn does extremely high level work and is very highly regarded. So if the mod is something that interests you, at least you know you are getting top notch quality.

It, like all used gear, is what somebody will step up with the cash to buy it. Better known more common instruments are easier to value, but one-offs like this are harder to price: This particular axe is not for everyone, but sooner or later it will find a home, but that asking price is to me way past reality. For the right buyer, maybe not.

Hoo boy, they kinda did that one in for the owner. I think the price is... ambitious. I might consider $500 USD knowing that I'd be doing the restoration and spending at least $1500 on parts and time, but also knowing that it will forever retain some scars, and it's permanent resale value will be scarred with it.

The amount any sane person would pay for that bass is going to be astronomically less than what the owner thinks it is worth. My guess is it will just sit on Reverb for years and never have a buyer.
