How much water do you drink a day?

Seriously, everyone is talking about how near impossible it is to drink 8 cups of water a day. And I don't get it, granted, I have a reverse osmosis tap and a well of clean, high quality water at home, so I drink a lot of water. 16-17 cups a days worth, every day. And no, I do not go to the John every third minute. So how much water do you drink? is city water less refreshing after a days worth of hard work? Why is 8 cups a day so crazy?

At least a couple quarts, more if it's hotter than 80. But I work outside as a carpenter. A gallon some days, and the problem is replacing electrolytes, since I don't like the crappy sports drinks.

I pretty much only drink coffee, water, and scotch, or some other malted beverage.

If your pee is yellow, you're not drinking enough water.

My wife and I each drink at least a half gallon per day; I'm probably closer to a gallon.

I think a lot of people don't drink enough because they're unwilling to cut back on their coffee and/or soda/energy drink consumption. I have 1-2 sodas a week, my wife has none and neither of us drinks coffee.

Normal 'indoor' sort of day, between 2 - 3 quarts. Throw in a bunch of outdoor activities and I'll throw down another quart. If my pee is just barely off clear, I've done the right thing.

It does take a little work to get there if you're currently not drinking enough. Even at my hydration level, I had to work up to a higher level for a BunBurner Gold I did a couple of years ago. I knew that would be 24 hours of needing to slug liquids non-stop, but I couldn't be peeing all the time. So about two months in advance I seriously upped my fluid intake. For two weeks I was up twice in the night, every night. Then I wasn't, barely, then I wasn't, and slept well. It took most of those two months for my cells to get all nice and plump. (Because everybody wants nice plump cells!) Day of the event, I drank my 3L Camelbak four times. Pee was clear, and I wasn't peeing often. Perfect.

I drink plenty. I don't force myself for the sake of clear urine. People can drink too much water. Something you'll see often in office environments. I drink several cups of black sweetenerless coffee and a good amount of water. Works for me.

3 mugs of coffee, soft drink at lunch, most likely a 20 ounce bottle in the afternoon. I spend too much time in the restroom as is, drinking any more would mean I'd need a desk in there. I find the recommendations to be excessive.

Caffeine is a diuretic. Substitute water for the caffeine and you're probably spending less time in the restroom.

I'm also a carpenter. i also love a scotch whiskey after work. I feel like we'd have a lot to talk about.

2 to 3 bottled waters. On gig days it is a lot more especially if we're outdoors.

PS: Health & Safety Warning: A lot of water can flush sodium out of your body and low sodium is not good for you. I add salt to everything because I get bloodwork about 4 times per year(twice at work, twice at my doc) and my sodium showed up as low a few times when we were doing outdoor gigs and water consumption was normal or max. They're fixed now. My "real doc"(retired Army doc) asked me if I drank a lot of water when the sodium was low the first time. He suggested drinks with sodium instead of just water but those have corn syrup or worse(tons of sugar) so I just started eating crackers as snacks and adding salt to my food.

Yes you will. However as a big time coffee man, I know there's no way, even without the headache, I just can't not have a piping hot cup of coffee in the morn. I bet pilgrim thinks the same

Right. And since water has no caffeine, there's no point in drinking it in the morning. Regardless, the water recommendations are rather silly. Try them with a 65 year old prostate and you'll have a desk in the bathroom too.

Oh, I didn't say he couldn't have his morning cup of coffee. But he's got more caffeine than water going.

Edit for phone. Yup, I'm blaming the phone.

Unless I'm doing something out in the hot sun, I probably only drink about 16oz a day ... a few sips with meals, and the rest in a glass but my nightstand that I normally reach for at some point in the middle of the overnight. I do however drink about a pot of coffee, an iced tea or soda, or a few beers on the evening
