How often do you change your pickguard?

Me, I put on a white/black/white (actually vintage green) pg on my Jazz Bass from Memorial Day to Labor Day, just like the fashion police tell you to. Then I put back on the original tort pg in September.

This is my second year doing this. I find it relieves GAS in a small way.

I've never ever changed a pickguard on one of my basses. It's just a waste of money IMO.

Well I don't know that I'd go that far, might be necessary if it's damaged or has unwanted decals or other such things. I had to change one 'cause a few of the screwholes were broken on the guard and it was lifting up.

I agree that I've never changed one for cosmetic purposes, or because I was ticketed by the fashion police.

I've always wanted to change the white pickguard on my Fender American Standard P-Bass to something else (the bass itself is a teal-ish sparkly blue color), but have never found a pickguard that appealed to me or that I thought wouldn't look really hideous on it.

Of the 100+ basses I've owned I've replaced exactly 1 pickguard, which was cracked. So I guess it doesn't do much for me.

I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure that nobody is looking at your pick guard. they are looking at your guitar players legs.

Your bass looks great to me with either guard, so if it helps relieve G.A.S. - you can't go wrong.

Personally I've never changed a pick guard, but I'm still pretty new to this bass playing thing.

Some people care more about how their bass looks than you.

Me, I see all those vintage white jazz basses with white pickguards and have to restrain the urge to yell "Tortoise! TORTOISE!! You put tort pickguards on vintage white!!! White pickguards on black basses! Black pickguards on natural ones!!". But I'm crazy like that

Only once in my life, and now that I like it, I wont change it to anything else. And I am happy with my other basses.

I changed the pickguards on both my Pbasses; when I got my 74 the ordinal [black] was melted and warped pretty badly [I got it in AZ] and then I replaced the replacement when I found a old black fender one. I replaced the one on my 70 Pbass [the bass is kind of a mut though, with a fretless Chandler J neck and had a J bridge pickup added before I got the bass] that was tort which I'm not the biggest fan of with a black one. Both bass are sunburst.

i made a plexiglass pickguard for my P bass.

I usually have a Pabst blue ribbon box under it, sometimes i switch it up to high life........its my bar bass, what can i say.

I did have part of a jack daniels box under it ( cardboard ) but it stuck up to high : (

I know a guitar player who made a pickguard for his Fender strat from a McDonalds tray, and that worked out pretty cool with McD-red on white...

Me I've never felt the urge (unless they break), but if it makes Your day shine better go for it...

I've removed the pickguard on my Jazz, not going to replace it, but I've recently bought a clear pickguard for my honeyburst Stingray, and I agree, It relieves GAS... it has a completely different look now, and I feel as if its a new bass in a way.
