Haha, you feel like a baby? I'm 13, started playing almost two years ago now, first learnt piano when I was 7 or 8. Originally I'd wanted to play banjo, lol, but my music teacher taught me piano first so I'd get some musical theory. Well, it worked, because now I can pick up almost any instrument now and get something out of it. That's how I started playing bass.

I'm 25 at the moment. I started playing bass about 6 years ago, and have never looked back. While playing guitar is really fun it just doesn't beat playing some nice groove.

Recently turned 50. Most people who meet me think I am at least ten years younger. Started playing when I was 10. First bass was a Gibson grabber which I no longer have. Played in my older brothers band when I was 13. Gave it all up when I was in my mid 20s for career and family. Picked it up again last year and enjoy playing in my spare time. I am now raising my kids alone so I won't be playing live again as i have no time for that sort of thing. Just a fun hobby.

One of the oldies here at 62, started when I was 14. (!) Played in some pretty popular bands in the late 60's and early 70's, opened for many a band you've heard of and even more you haven't!

Stopped in my mid 2-'s and picked it back up at 40 and until last year played in an oldies BY oldies band Sadly developed neuropathy and can't walk nor play anymore.

Still got more memories than I can remember

Another good question would be:

Did you really want to play bass or did you take it up because no one else was doing it & the Band needed lowend?

I did & know so many others who did likewise

51. Picked it up when I was about to 16 figuring if it could get Gene Simmons laid it could work for me.
Mainly a hard rock/metal player FWIW.

18 in a week, picked up guitar right after my 16th birthday, picked up bass 4 months after that, joined my band as bassist 3 months after that. Still in that same band with me, the drummer, and both guitarists being constant and we're at a year and a half.
