How old is too old to rock? Dazed and confused.

I was thinking if with my age, 29, Im too old to still be rocking. I do have my regular job (not music, never giged covers) and sometimes is difficult to be involved with some guys which first priority is the job, children, wife etc. Im involved in a progresive band and I want to form an experimental rock band, but sometimes I think its very frustrating that takes much more time to rehearsal, finish songs etc because everybody in the band have other priorities in life.What should I do or?

There's not really such a thing as "too old." Sounds to me like you're just not in a band with the right people.

I'm 51, continue to play semi professionally, had a gig Friday night, hold down a director's position at a multinational company, have two daughters in university. I had a weird belief that you should grow up when you hit 30, put away the bass and buy a minivan. I did that, but got back into it and never looked back.

It's who I am. I'm a musician and have been since age 7. Some people like to play golf. I like to play bass, play live and play with talented musicians. It feeds my soul. Yes, I wear a suit during the day, but once or twice a month, I get up on stage and play music. To me, playing live music is as relaxing a sitting in a hot tub.

Find the space in your life to make it fit. It may not work just yet given having your hands full. To walk away completely could be like never listening to your car stereo again. Can you imagine that? Of course not. You're a musician and a father and working man. Your musical creativity is a gift and it inspires you. Find the space. You'll be more complete and your family will love you for it.

Now go listen to some loud music.

Dude, 40 here. Just about to go into studio to record my band's second full-length album; gigs and hopefully a tour thereafter. Believe! You are never too old. Just have to find the right partners who want to rock up with you!

Are you kidding? No way!

I am of the opinion that no one can be 'too old' to be rocking!

That's understandable. :hmm: As long as those priorities are not ignored, though, why not stick with music if you love it?

I'm 32 and play for a living. My kid was born in February this year. In March I went on tour to Germany for four weeks. Not easy by a long shot, but the flipside is that had I said no to the tour I'd have been one miserable (and less well off) guy. Aside from music being what I do for a living, it's also what I do to feel alive.

Like BMC said - maybe it's only playing once or twice a month, but that's worth it to keep your heart smiling.

You're never too old - until you think you are. And then you're wrong, you're still never too old. Find new guys and gals to play with, you know it'll be worth it. Nevermind how long it'll take to get things together, or to learn tunes, etc.

You're not too old. True, craigslist's "musicians wanted" section would make you think you are, as it is is rife with ads like, "Bass player wanted. low-to mid-twenties" and "bass player needed. Must be under 30." But no, one is never too old to rock. Maybe 71 is too old.

Too old at 29? I'm 54 and play once a week with some friends. We only play for 15 or 20 people, but they like the way we sound. We are also cutting a cd (covers and originals) which is going good. I might be too old in 20 years or so, but for now I'll keep rockin'.

never too old. maybe you are playing with the wrong people? IMO band members need to do a lot of homework at home. learning a song at rehearsal is not the way to do it. rehearsal is where you all play together and lock in with each other, make minor changes etc.

I'm 31 and the problem that I keep running into is that everyone in my age group still wants to be a rock star. I keep seeing CL ads that say things like "you can't let a job and a family stand in your way." It's ridiculous. It's the musical equivalent of every guy on the golf course quitting his job to go pro :rollno:

**** that! I busted my ass to get my career going and I'm finally doing something I actually enjoy. Besides, I'm convinced that my daughter is the reason the sun rises in the morning.
