How should i pimp my axe?

I have one of those SBMM basses and I like it.

For a low cost Bass it's pretty well built and sounds decent. I bought it right here in the TB classifieds.

They prices of one of those is only a few hundred dollars less than the original Ernie Ball Music Man Stirling :( and i cant find neither one of them at any shops in Australia :(

That was exactly how i was treated but i didn't want to play the victim, I won't go back, that used Fender 2020 is only $500 less than a 2022 Fender Ultra - i have put a deposit down on a 2022 Fender Ultra :) i will keep my first bass it has brought me so much joy and taught me so much !

By the way what the hell is that black thing on the scratch plate in the picture below? Shouldn't it be on the opposite side so people could rest their thumb on?

That's actually what they call a tug bar - it was used on vintage Fenders. The idea was that bass players way back in the early days of electric bass were still trying to figure out how to position their hands to play this new "electric bass" thing. The early consensus was to rest the side of your palm on the tug bar and use your thumb to strum the strings - much the way you'd play an acoustic guitar. Obviously, this is a very old-school method and it's extremely rare to see anyone using this hand position these days, where nowadays it's approaching the strings mostly from the top/down.

Sometimes you will see the bar placed above the strings rather than under the strings. When it's place above the strings, people usually refer to it as a "thumbrest".

I’ve been treated that way on many occasions simply because I am female and various other reasons.
Have a male go in and make the purchase for you if you can.

Where do you live if, I may ask?

The owners of the two local "mom and pop" guitar stores I frequent would have conniption fits if their customers were treated rudely.

Is Guitar Center treating you like this?

As you know i have a Sire Marcus Miller 4 Strings Jazz Bass since 2019. I want to improve the sound and quality.

What should i do to her?

Btw my E string doesn't buzz anymore when i try to slap her, is it because of old strings or has the neck gone twisty? i tried lowering and even raising the bridge but it just wont buzz anymore :(

I had to make a new account because i lost my old phone that had an authentication app on it.
There is a YouTube video link in your signature that shows some truly “Amazing” people driving Ferraris & Lambo’s, flying air force Jets, owning both a Penthouse and a Hawaiian mansion…and playing Fender Jazz basses…

The video author has the same name as your profile.
If that’s you, why don’t you just buy a Fodera and call it a day?

You beat me to it...except I was going to say a Sadowsky with every upgrade he offers since the OP seams to enjoy Fender style instruments.

My husband is military . We move quite frequently and have lived in many different locations .
I grew up in Dallas and have played guitar and bass since my early teens. This is nothing new.

Has it ever happened to me at GC…. Yes. At my now local GC, no.

Take your bass to a luthier to evaluate your current setup before modding or buying a new bass!

Seems odd that she would mention walking away from a bass due to $100 haggle not going in her favor and laying away another bass that cost $500 more due to it being expensive.

In this day and age, especially with the number of female bassists out there with amazing skills, this is not only uncalled for but bad a business practice.

Do not stand for it. Same with OP.

i got my eyes on a second hand 2020 Fender Ultra Jazz Bass, but the people that worked at the shop were very rude and obnoxious and they treated me like a moron.

i can't afford the 2022 version sadly.
That’s shameful.
I know this is not what you asked. But if that was my business and an employee treated any customer that way (or my wife or daughter) I would want to know.
You might consider contacting the store manager or even higher if it’s a chain. I have no doubt an employee anywhere can behave badly. But I’m quite certain it would not be tolerated by management. And who knows, they might set you up for helping them weed out an employee who makes them look bad.

Tension probably, on the buzz.

New pickups. That's about it.

Anything else is cosmetic.

They wont even give me $100 off the price lol which is $2,699.00 AUD. They let me walk away over $100 ! I had $2500 and i was willing to pay $2500 for it.

This is where I would have pulled out my big wad of cash ( I always buy with cash ) , turned and headed for the door, saying "That's too bad, I really wanted that bass."

You'd be amazed at how people change their tune when presented with that.

Here's one of two bassists I can think of who actually uses the tug bar.
(10 points to whoever has a pic of another one.)
