Here's one of two bassists I can think of who actually uses the tug bar.

Ah - I should have Googled some pics first. It's not so much about resting your palm on the bar as it is anchoring your fingers while using your thumb to strum.

Hence the "tug" part of tug bar. <insert embarrassed face-palm meme here>.

Btw my E string doesn't buzz anymore when i try to slap her, is it because of old strings or has the neck gone twisty? i tried lowering and even raising the bridge but it just wont buzz anymore

Before you go buy a new bass, there are two things you objectively should check on your current bass:

• Try new strings, or even different brands or types of strings.
• Do a setup on the bass (or have it done by a technician).

There's a pretty good (read: 95%) chance that what you currently have is great and will suit your needs after a string change.

If you can describe what you want in more detail in terms of the sounds you're looking for, that could help you find a path.

Seems odd that she would mention walking away from a bass due to $100 haggle not going in her favor and laying away another bass that cost $500 more due to it being expensive.

They certainly can be great players . But lately QC has been all over the place on certain models.

Pretty much the same with many mass production Basses. How many MIM Fender threads have we all seem either praising or condemning them?

I guess that I got lucky with my SBMM.

You didn’t mention adjusting the neck truss rod. If anything, look at some tutorials on it so you can diagnose issues. Tests include seeing if your string-fret clearance is correct when you press the string down at various frets.

For your Sire, the adjustment point appears to be at the base of the neck, by the pickup.

Humidity changes can cause the neck to bend and require adjustment. It’s worth knowing how to do it.

Get a good setup and consider different pickups.

Hearing your stories about being mistreated by salesmen disgusts me. Many brick and morter music stores are seriously struggling.

I know I can be a bit pushy, but try again, if the guy is a jerk, put the instrument down and calmly tell him that you are going to find a manager.

They want to make the sale as badly as you want to buy it. A good salesman should help the customer, even if they are total beginners.

You dont need them. These guys shouldn't be working with the public.

I have an American Ultra P Bass and a Sire P7. The only mod I felt was necessary on my Sire was a set of GHS flat wound strings. Also I play in passive mode on both of the basses most of the time.

I had to make a new account because i lost my old phone that had an authentication app on it.

A good setup of the bass is a reasonable precursor to practice and playing. Two of the most important parts of being a musician are woodshed and ear. Among the least important is gear.

So many things you could do to a Sire to make it sound better and add quality to it. It’s a fantastic bass as is, but really lends itself well to modifications.

You could look at upgrading the bridge and tuners first. Then maybe swapping out the pickups and trying different preamps until you get your desired tone.

I also find that different string brands and types can really add a new dimension to any bass that is starting to feel a little “meh.” Maybe even send it away for a PLEK fret level to improve the action ability of the bass as well.

Either way, Sire makes a great bass!
