Your current bass is just fine.
Its great actually.

You need to take it to a good “bass” tech and them dress the frets and adjust the action and pickup height.
If you can, try to find someone with a Pleck machine.

And make sure the tech is an experienced BASS player. Guitar techs are always messing up basses. Lol
(Im half joking when I say that. There are plenty of people that can set up a guitar and a bass. But honestly, a bass player knows what feels right for bass players.)

That was exactly how i was treated but i didn't want to play the victim, I won't go back, that used Fender 2020 is only $500 less than a 2022 Fender Ultra - i have put a deposit down on a 2022 Fender Ultra i will keep my first bass it has brought me so much joy and taught me so much !

By the way what the hell is that black thing on the scratch plate in the picture below? Shouldn't it be on the opposite side so people could rest their thumb on?

That's a tug bar that some players use when using their thumb to pluck. Even if you don't need it, it still looks cool (vintage). That is one bad*** bass!

Are Sterling by Music Man StingRay Ray34 HH a copy of Ernie Ball Music Man bass guitars? I wouldn't mind getting one of these.

The Sterling by Music Man (SBMM) brand is licensed by Ernie Ball Music Man (EBMM) to produce instruments that are basically much less expensive versions of EBMM instruments. So if you want a Music Man but can't afford the American-made EBMM ones you might consider the Asian-made SBMM brand. I've played some that were very nice, and some that were somewhat subpar.

Having said that, in my opinion new prices for SBMM are way too high here in Australia, you can get noticeably better stuff from other brands for the same money, and used ones are pretty few and far between here.

It seems implausible to me that a great sound can't be achieved with the 8 knobs on the Sire. It has tonal variations for days. Do you know a more experienced bassist that might be able to help you with the controls?

They wont even give me $100 off the price lol which is $2,699.00 AUD. They let me walk away over $100 ! I had $2500 and i was willing to pay $2500 for it. I feel your pain Buying bass guitars in OZ is traumatic. They will sell junk at a premium and good stuff is marked up even more!
