Double Bass How should I store my bass?

Quick question:
I'm going away for 2 months on Saturday and so my bass will be going unplayed for that time.
How should I store it while I'm away?
While I'm in town I generally just leave it leaning against the corner of the room. Should I keep it in its case, just as it is or does it not really matter?

Yeah its in a pretty secure position and nobody would really be around it much. I guess I was wondering about humidity and weather etc. I live in Sydney and it can get pretty hot and humid in summer time. Do you reckon the case might be a good idea to try regulate the conditions as well or does it not matter that much?

Unless it gets so hot and humid in the house so the glue fails, I think you're fine. (I don't know how hot it needs to be for that to happen...) The case shouldn't make a difference with this.

That would have to be a bunk bed, with the bottom part removed.

The fluctuations of temperature and humidity are moderated by being in a case, which is a good thing. Being in a case also keeps the dust off. Putting it in a case takes 30 seconds.

Hey fudgestick noodlers, y'all have strayed to the dark side, a.k.a. doublebass land. Most of us don't have a hard case because they are very expensive, and I've never seen a bed you could fit a real bass under, but hey thanks for visiting!

To the OP, why not just put your bass in it's bag and lay it on it's side if you're going out of town, just in case there is an earthquake or something. For day to day, out of the bag in a corner is fine, the air in the bag and out of it will generally be at the same humidity.

I for one did not notice.

Still, I would give the same advice for a double bass, a violin, a classic guitar, etc. Now that I think about it, I would give the same advice for a clarinet too. The best place to store an instrument is in its case.

Give it to someone you trust to look after it and play it too... preferably some other bassist or a guitarist - someone who's already looking after an axe or two of their own

To respond to the OP, as long as where you're keeping it is a controlled environment (reasonably steady temp and humidity), I don't see what problems could arise in 2 months. Keep it in its bag for good measure.

I have to agree......you couldn't fit an upright under the bed I now have..... but if you would like to 'drop off' your bass I could find a way to squeeze it under..........
