There was a thread about this 20 years ago. It's still hanging around somewhere. I just wanted to get a new perspective, and see if anything's changed in 20 years.

Me? I'm a 60 or 73 guy. Triangle Tortex. I like the feel of the thinner pick, and I like that it's easier to hold. I can plan those faster than the thicker ones, they move the strings more than enough, and I'd rather bend/break a pick than a string. I can always reach into my pocket and get another pick.

I like the Pickboy Pos-a-Grip in carbon/nylon or celuloid or the Ibanez Grip Wizard sand-grip. I not only like the grippiness (I made that word up but feel free to use it) but I also like the shape.

I’ve always liked .73 Tortex or Ultex or plain old Fender medium celluloid for guitar but for bass I’m a 1mm kind of guy.

I’ve favored Dunlop Gator Grips (.96mm for bass, .71 for guitar) for years, but just picked (OPE :smug:) up some Dunlop Ultex (1mm and .60) because they have rhinos in them and they claim to last longer (but mostly because of the rhinos ). My only complaint about the Gator Grips is how fast I burn through them, so if the Ultex play like Gators and last longer and continue to have rhinos, they may claim my loyalty.

I LOVE my (?)Dunlop Tortex 0.125(?) (They're the purple ones)

and my Steve Clayton 0.152 (The white whatever with the eagles on them).

"real bass players don't use a pick"? Someone needs to talk to a few of the greats. Off the top o' my head:

Jason Newsted
Dave Ellefson
Gene Simmons
Carol Kaye
Chris Squire
Roger Waters
John Lodge
...

Of course, Jaco didn't need no pick! (Sorry. I had to)
