How to achieve growly, zingy tone?

The sansamp bass driver with the presence and treble boosted + generous drive will get that sound, from my experience.
B3K is way too thin IMO to get that tone. That sounds more like a Stingray or a Rick tone with an overdriven amp. A B7K on the other hand could get closer. If you're going to go the pedal route, I'd look at a pedal like the Okko Basstard or one of the Swell pedals. Sounds more like that tone than the Darkglass.
Sounded roughly like a Stingray going into a BDDI with presence and drive boosted to taste in the samples provided. In other words, scooped with a big peak in the high mids.

I just messed around with my Eden 300T and my Dingwall AB1 and got pretty close to this sound with just that. Gain all the way up with overdrive on the amp.

Adjust the treble to get more clank.

I really don't think you need a pedal for this. Just a nice tube amp. Or if you must have a pedal a tube amp emulator. I think the BDDI would do it as well. I had one for awhile and it got some awesome tones going out of it. Just sucks that it doesn't seem to like other pedals. At least not the ones I had.
