How to clean a bass?

I wouldn't try that without asking an expert. Fender could probably tell you if that is safe.

I jammed with a guitarist a few days ago and after I wiped down my bass with a soft rag,,,which I do every time. He looked at me and commented that in doing that I am prematurely wearing away the finish on my bass (ProTone Squier). Any thoughts on that..I thought the guy was a bit crazy,, (he never wipes down his instruments so he tells me)

I bet he goes through a lot of strings if he doesn't wipe his guitar down. Sweat does a number on strings.

I like the way old round wounds sound. You know when they start to turn green.

Buy the polish, fretboard cleaner and hardware (metal) cleaner they sell at any music shop.

I like Gibson, but Virtuoso, Martin, GHS, Ernie Ball, etc. make similar stuff. Pretty cheap.

Unless you know what you are doing, don't use Mr. Clean, Pledge, Windex, etc.
