How to do a proper recording for YouTube?

If your camera supports external audio sources, you could feed your audio directly into the camera, avoiding the need to sync. Jim Nazium suggested plugging the bass directly into the audio interface, then taking the headphone output of the interface directly into the camera.

Another way to do it would be to mic the bass cab (and possibly another mic for the vocals) and run those into the interface, then take the headphone output from the interface into the camera.

Syncing audio and video in a video editor is not that hard, though. It's a nice easy task to start learning video editing which is a good thing to learn anyway.

What kind of camera are you planning on using? That will narrow down what your options are.

If you're using a DSLR like a Canon 5D MKII, then you can just run your interfaces headphone out directly into the camera and be done with it. If you're using a webcam or something like that you're basically stuck with syncing.

I have a digital camera made by, actually I don't know. It's just a regular digital camera but I do know it has a "YouTube" setting on it. And then I have my PC camera.

What I would do is preamp it and put it in directly into the computer and record it with audacity

What I do is have to signals running to an interface, one is a d.i out of an Ampeg SVT. The other is an AKG d112 micing a 410. I then mix these singles to the correct levels... To get the video I sync I would clap at the start of a video, loud enough for the bass cab mic to pick up, I then sync the video audio clap, with the clap coming through the d112, and finally remove the video audio, replacing it with the mixed d.i and d112. Hope that helps!

I tried this with a similar device (2i2) and had such 60-cycle hum it was virtually unuseable.

Used the DI in and no hum.

I'll go run down the hum issue later but if DI is available (as I know it is for mr Gregmon) it might be the quiet path...

The way I've always done it is to plug my bass into my recording interface (which also serves as my computer's sound card), and then connect the headphone out from the interface to the audio input of a Zoom Q3 HD. I can use the input gain control on the interface to balance the level of my bass with the other tracks.

I do it in three part :

first part is the actual recording in Pro Tool through a M-Audio interface.

second part is filming with a good camera or whatever that can film

third part is combining your audio you recorded in Pro Tool and the video you got from your camera or whatever. This can be laborious or very straight foward depending if you have to sync more than one video

I forgot to mention: I put a mirror behind the Zoom so I can see its screen while I'm sitting in front of it. That way I can make sure I'm in the shot and that the volume level is right.

Some friends of mine at a garage jam. I was the camera man. Audio was done with the recording app on a Blackberry Playbook. I just hit record and laid it down at the opposite end of the room from the drummer. The guitar player with the V synched it up (off by like a tenth of a second).
