How to fix THIS?!?!

Bought this bass with little inspection but didn't pay much. It plays and sounds ridiculously good but this just bothers me. Any ideas on how and why this got this way and how to fix it? As far as I can tell, the neck is original and was told the bridge was too but I'm not an expert on Fender. It's a MIM Fender P/J.

How does the nut look?
Outside of replacing the bridge/nut I don't see how to fix it. Hard to believe it left the factory like that either, and the dent/crack under the bridge tells me someone tinkered with it at some point :cautious:

Thanks guys, I'm going to try this later when I get home and I'll take a pic of the nut. I played the heck out of this bass and then let a friend borrow it. He was dumbfounded by how good it played and sounded but a student of his pointed out the oddity and we've both been scratching our heads since we discovered it. I find it bizarre that both of us, each having played for around 40 years, didn't notice this...

Was the bridge taken apart and the string and saddle screws swapped positions? I've never seen one where the strings and saddles are angled like that. It just looks wrong.

I was just going to say it looks like the bridge might be assembled incorrectly. It sure looks wonky (technical term).

The neck may benefit from a position adjustment as others mentioned above.
