How to get this slightly overdriven tube sound?

I have a beastly solid state that doesn't distort and I'd like to get just a slight overdriven sound - not really into the metal distortion sounds though. Good example here in the first song (the others are killer too, esp. when Steve Winwood sings with the Spencer Davis Group! Amazing):

I'd recommend Dave Hall Amps pedals. I use the Mark III and it has the best range of subtle overdrive I've heard, as well as a range of other tricks as well. Check E-Bay for deals on their stuff.

as previously stated the best way to get that sound is to have a tube head...lol

other than that i would suggest a tube emulator

Sansamp makes a nice variety of these

VT Bass
SABDI
RBI
RPM
and so forth

Vodoo Lab Sparkle Drive
Badder Monkey

MXR M-80 Bass DI

lots more out there..just do a quick search

+1 to the Dave Hall stuff...I have the VT1-MK3 and it does slightly overdriven tube sounds perfectly. I got it used here on TB for about the price of a new sansamp VT. Only thing thats been bothersome is the power supply...it doesnt run off batteries. Ive been thinking about picking up a VT pedal just to see what all the fuss is about. I know I can sell it here if I dont like it.

I have a VT and it does a decent job, however, I was in GC this weekend looking for a real tube pre/overdrive/distortion pedal and left with a Blackstar Ht Dual. At first I had no idea what this was or who Blackstar is, but now I do. Only $25.00 more than the VT, but considerably less than any DHA or EBS tube pre (and bring a can of soup for another 10% off). Pedals a little big, but runs off a true AC adapter which really allows the tube to burn! Compared to the VT if I'd found this first I would have never bought the VT - this is a "true tube" pre. This must be a very underrated/ underappreciated pedal because there's very little here at TB that describes or criticizes it.
