How to list basses for sale

Hello all -

I have about 11 basses that I would like to sell. They have been sitting in a closet for a while and it is time to get them into someone’s hands that will play them.

Is it best to have one big post with all the basses in it or post them all separately? Looking to get them on this site within the next few days. Thanks for your advise.

In case you are wondering - I will be listing the following:

Sire V10DX 5 string - Natural/Roasted Maple neck
Sire P7 5 String - Black - rosewood board
Sire V7 4 string setup BEAD - sunburst with rosewood board
Ibanez - Fanned fret 5 string SRFF805 (I believe) gray with rosewood board
Bacchus - Woodline Jazz 4 string (Deluxe?) Walnut Stained Oak - rosewood board
Carvin Vantage 5 string walnut with ebony board
Carvin PJ 4 string Blue with rosewood board
Carvin SB 70 4 string black with rosewood board plus an extra Carvin Fretless neck - ebony board.
GL Tribute LB 100 4 string - white with rosewood board
NS Design Wave EUB 4 string Amberburst with ebony board
Takamine Acoustic 4 string - spruce top and rosewood board

I also like when lots are listed separately (especially pedals). From a buyer point of view, when listed separately the filters such as price, # of strings, or even "title mentions" could blacklist/disqualify your bulk listing from my search parameters.
It is nice to see what else a seller is offering, but most of the time when looking here on the classifieds i have at least 1 filter going, or I am looking for something specific.

It also helps to list multiple places.

- TB Classifieds only costs you a supporting membership, and everyone I’ve interacted with when thinking about buying or selling here has been great.
- Reverb is going to charge high fees, but also probably has the biggest reach.
- FB Marketplace charges no fees, but is only really reaching your local area. It’s also the one most full of scammers. That said, I’ve probably sold the most through them.
- SW Gear Exchange has lower fees than Reverb, but I’m not sure how much traction it gets. I’ve never even had a nibble there.
- People also use eBay, but I haven’t.

Shipping basses can be a pain, so be ready. I sold a few recently and went to my local box store to buy guitar boxes. Each box was ~$15. I’d cut each box down to the minimum height needed to safely ship because every inch you can lop off saves you money. Sign up for Pirate Ship to get the best shipping rates.

Include the weight of each bass in your listing. It’s the number one question you’ll get.

Just a small addendum to using Sweetwater's Gear Exchange... the fees are about the same as Reverb if you go that route but they also give you the option to be paid (fee free) in Sweetwater credit if that appeals to you.

I've also gotten very little response on Gear Exchange, I think I've sold one pedal there. The nice thing though is that you can directly import your listing from Reverb so it's essentially a "bonus" listing, if you will.

You can opt in to sales on Reverb (or create your own) and Gear Exchange gives you the option to opt in to their sales as well.

There's more to it (TAXES!) so if you go that route just be prepared to deal with that. But I think it's still better to cast as wide a net as possible.

And with that said, I suggest individual listings here on TB.

If you list separately, all 11 in one day will be unwieldy and a lot to keep track of.

I say post 3, the 3 you think will sell the quickest. When one sells, replace that with a new one. This way, you're not overwhelming yourself keeping track of 11 ads simultaneously, but a more manageable 3 at a time, max.

And if you do "a little at a time for a long time" you will get a dynamic idea of how the preowned bass market is changing, as it heats and cools.

Hello,

Would you mind I give you a suggestion? Do not sell your basses. Try to open a music school with 11 students, to each musician you provide 1 of your basses to them study and play at the school, but to play at their homes or with their bands they have to purchase a brand new bass.

Then you tell to us at this topic about the progress of your school, To protect the privacy of your musicians dont't tell about them at this thread, but talk about the bass of your school the musician is playing. When your musicians play well and achieve success at their career your talk about the bass you provided to them.

That this bass have good sound, hardware or painting, show photos of the bass and describe it according your creativity but linked with the musician reality. If the musician "kiss my ass", "brokeback" "dickpoopie" or something like this you share the bass have worn out, needs upgrade or adjust parts, painting, new hardware or inlays.

Don't tell wich bass is each musician. Don't tell your musicians about this thread, however if they ocasionaly discover is up to you discover or deny, because social media works this way.

It's a way of promote music playing and refresh the market.

What do you think?

By the way, I check for Nathan Fielder on the names dictionary and it not found nobody with this name. the closest name is Nathan de Gaza, here the excerpt.

I've never been in this situation but I think I'd list them separately. It would be much less confusing I would think.
