How to make a T-40 lighter!

This makes me a SAAAAAAAAD panda.......

P.s. (south park reference)

IMO, any "tasteful" alterations one could make to a T-40 to reduce weight wouldn't really be worth it, you'd still have a fairly heavy bass. They are what they are, love 'em or leave 'em.

Excellent point LPB! I guess that's why I bought mine in '79 & sold it in '80. It's probably a good thing I never got around to my planer-based weight reduction mod ;).

Oh what people will do to the poor T-series...

Being a fan of Peavey T-series (and before I found my perfect T-40 and quit looking), I drove all over town looking at beat up and abused craigslist T-series basses/guitars.

One listed a T-40 for $250 and no pics. It came with the case, which was nice, but once they opened the case, I saw the most awesome/horrible "refin" attempt ever. It was a natural finish with a maple board.

The refin consisted of apparently using a blowtorch to scorch the edges of the front of the body (for a faux burst effect, I think) and for good measure, using the blowtorch to scorch the word? title? bandname? "F*ckstar" on the back.

The guy showed it to me with a straight face. I offered $200 but they wouldn't come down. I wish I would've had a cell phone camera back then to record it for all time...

Glad you didn't... saved us all some nausea!
