I've always found that the hum gets worse after I drink fluoridated water. 60 cycle hum is also influenced by the mercury in your body from vaccines. Preserve your precious bodily fluids!

LOL! Peace On Earth, baby! BTW, I've always found that if I drink nothing but rain water and pure grain alcohol, there's no hum in the bass--but there's a buzz in my head!I've always found that the hum gets worse after I drink fluoridated water. 60 cycle hum is also influenced by the mercury in your body from vaccines. It's not a conspiracy theory if it's true!
I've found that if you put enough aluminum foil in your ears the hum will stop.
To the OP... ( Thanks, I needed to close out my quota for sarcasm in 2018, and only a few days left, great post)
It's all relative to the source of the electromagnetic field. It could even be your own amp, and adjacent band mate's amp, the PA gear, stomp box transformers, the ceiling fan above, or anything that uses AC power. What I'm saying is, although that angle "cured" the hum in that room, it will likely be a different angle in another.

As far as I can tell, the Ilitch/Suhr system (low impedance dummy/air coil) works best for passive single coils:
Never tried it myself, but there's an Ilitch pickguard version for jazz basses: Invalid Link Removed
I've made one to my '51 type P bass and a Stratocaster. It really works, and does not alter the sound. The best system I've found.
Here's some good info.Would you mind sharing how you made it, maybe post some pics? Maybe in a separate thread or via PM, I think this thread has been derailed![]()
... Apologies: being Australian, I just can't help spelling 'aluminium' correctly, and riding in kangaroo pouches.
I've never found a dummy coil solution that didn't rob a little bit of high end from the tone, as well as some of the dynamics (or general lifeblood, if you want to get cork sniffing) from the tone.
So how you shield the pups, #1 in collecting hum?Shielding doesn't rob the high end at all. Or give me concrete solid proof of that, that's totally false to me
